Can anyone confirm that a safety camera has to be positioned within 10 metres of the carriageway being monitored?

I am fairly sure I read this in the dft rules but I can't remember where and a quick search doesn't bring anything up.

If this is the case then some of the cameras sited on bridges must be over 10m from the carriageways.

Whilst that may apply for fixed camera installations I doubt it would be applicable to a safety camera van?

Apologies - I've lost the bookmark I had for ACPO guidlines on mobile cameras when changing computers. I posted it once a month or two ago if anybody feels tempted to bore their way through my posts.

From vague recollection, the height of the bridge has to be taken into account simply for the angle of attack (or distance to target) of the camera, plus it was recommended that the camera be mounted above the lane (or was it carriageway) being targeted. There was some sort of calculation for bridge cameras.

Here's a link I've just found http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/rept2005.pdf but I didn't read all through this (over 90 pages!).
