Quote: | Speed camera signs could end
Warwickshire County Council is considering plans which could see some speed cameras operated without signs to warn approaching motorists.
The proposal would see signs erected at new camera sites only if they were deemed to be of benefit to casualty reduction or community benefit.
Officials say warning signs are costly and divert resources from enforcement.

Just seen on teletext,It would seem to imply that signs are more costly than the cameras themselves, but surely this would need a change of legislation from the government.
Or has April 1st come early _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

And if there is no Quote: | benefit to casualty reduction or community | what then is the justification for putting a camera there _________________ David

Not really. It just implies it's extra costs on top of the cost of the camera that could be better spent elsewhere. i.e. using made up figures, it could be something like the cost of 100 camera signs = cost of 2 lampposts to illuminate a junction or crossing....

what then is the justification for putting a camera there |
The camera will be placed in areas where it will help reduce casualty numbers or aid the community. The camera signs will only be used where it will further reduce casualty numbers or increase community benefit. In others words at one site the signs might be seen to help reduce accidents to a degree more than just the camera on it's own. In another area the signs might have no further effect on casualty reduction than just having the camera on it's own and so signs will not be deployed. |

Wasn't this all covered by the new rules - cameras no longer have to be painted hi-viz yellow etc, etc.
The published wisdom is "to reduce speeds", but the actual practice is to coin it in! Quote: | warning signs are costly and divert resources | In other words they use up some of the income from the cameras. _________________ Dennis
