Nuvi 660TFM headphone output

I have a 660TFM. In my last car, I found the normal speaker output low (noisy car at speed...), so I was using the FM transmitter to feed the car radio. I was never completely happy with that option - too difficult to get a decently clear signal, plus the radio would drift unless there was a continuous carrier from the Nuvi. Partially to get round that, I installed an SD card and have been using the MP3 player.

Anyhow, I've now moved the unit to a new car. The radio fitted has an aux input (though getting at it will require pulling the unit and making up an adaptor). Before I go to that amount of trouble, I wonder if anyone can comment on the sound quality I'm likely to get going from the Nuvi headphone socket to an aux input on the radio? It will get rid of the interference, but its not exactly purpose built for the application. So, is it worth the time and trouble, or should I look at other alternatvies?
