Has anyone heard if TomTom (or Garmin etc) have any plans to release maps for Dubai in particular? I did ask TomTom last year and they told me "possibly". The maps must be available, as some systems are operating there - certainly factory installed in car systems and one add on which I understand is Navgon 5 operating on a PDA phone. _________________ Jon |

So far Navigon are the only ones with Middle East coverage. TomTom definitely doesn't have anything there. Not sure about Garmin. _________________ Lutz

Apologies for resurrecting a year-old thread, but I run a Garmin Nuvi in Dubai, with MapSource 'City Navigator Middle East V4' maps.
It does work fine. However you must be aware that Dubai is a huge building site, so there are a number of new roads which are unknown, and some roads which have diverted somewhat! Not a major issue, as it will generally get you where you want to go.
No speed camera db is available for UAE (yet).
Also, if you are considering visiting UAE, the units and maps are way cheaper in Dubai than Europe. |

Dear Sir:
If you are a big wholesaler, you can try to contact with me. O can solve this problem to you. |

We have some data already but when we visited a trade show there last year it was suggested to us that use of such data would not be permitted under UAE law? _________________ Darren Griffin |

This proves our points. Cameras are there to take money and catch you out. Dubai etc does not want you to be safer but to put money in their safe.
As if they haven't enough dirahms from £1.10 a litre fuel. |

There has been an update since Darren's post last April. Admittedly it's another Emirate, Abu Dhabi, but it's thought that the same attitude prevails in Dubai.
Coincidentally the article quotes PocketGPSWorld.com
