Sorry folk I'm having a bit of a senior moment ... is there a feature on my 720 which allows me to select camera warnings only on my route when I'm navigating?
I've recently be playing with tomtom, garmin and snooper, I think I've got myself confused as to the different features on each device !!! |

There is, lets see if i can get it right.
Chnage Prefs.
Manage POIs
Warn When near
Then select each individual camera setting to give a warning distance. At the end there is the option to 'warn if on route' - or similar.
BUT, then you only get a warning whe you have a route planed. If you just switch the TT on and drive around, you will not get any camera warnings, you need to plan a route every time.
Bit of a double edged sword, warnings you don't need, or no warnings at all (unless you plan a route every time) _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Many thanks 253,
Thats what I was looking for, but had forgotten what a pain it is to alternate, having to go through the full routine with each camera type. Think I'll just leave them an all the time so as to get warnings without a route being planned. Just that it gets a bit noisy sometimes because there are so many damned cameras about !!!
Thanks

Glad to help.
I have mine 'on' all the time, but driving around London I find myself 'switching off' now with all the warnings, and then when I see a camera suddenly wonder why TT didn't warn me.
If you shorten the warning distance, you narrow down the number of 'off route' warnings but run the risk of getting pinged by a camera before you see it / get a warning. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

You only have to do it once, though. These settings are retained in Mapsettings.cfg file and when you update the camera database, you only need to replace the .OV2 files and the warnings remain. If I ever need to redo the warning settings, it takes me literally 5 minutes. (Maybe I'm brilliant, but even an old person of 70 could do it fairly quickly). _________________ Dennis

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for reply. What I was hoping to find was a 'global' setting that turns on/off all camera warnings at the 'warn only if poi on route' stage in the manage poi's section. This is change that I could make several times in day depending on when and where I'm driving. I think the only way this would work in the tomtom is if there was a way to group several poi categories together and select/deselct the warning for the group. That appears to be a tomtom limitation.

Yep, know where you are coming from! Hence my post elsewhere about the size of the alert icons. There are 'other' systems where once the camera location warning is triggered then entire display flashes the apppropriate actual speed limit sign, this is less easy to take for granted.
Also it appears other systems are better able to understand direction of travel and alert only on relevent camera without being in navigation mode. This appears to be a function of the various operating systems. The pocketgps database is terrific I just think better use could be made of it than tomtom do. The only problem is finding out, in sufficient detail, how the different devices work. Its a damned expensive hobby buying different devices to find out !!! (I'm up to four now!) |
