|
|
I am only used to a Zumo and a PDA based Tomtom 6 - so my wife wanting a TT 930 is a new one on me.
So, can one create routes using autoroute (or similar) and download it to the TT930? Can you save routes on the 930 (for example a daily route for holidaying over a 2 week period)?
Thanks for any help

There are several methods for doing this on a TomTom, but the most elegant is a free program called "Tyre" (get it from HERE)
It uses either Google Maps or Google Earth, create your route and output it as an itinerary file which can be loaded onto the TomTom.
Even TomTom (the company) like Tyre so much they have integrated it into their PC/Mac utility "Home".
You can create routes to follow on the TomTom itself too, using the "itinerary" menu pages. (Except on later versions of the ONE models). |

Hi alan_sh
Yes, Tyre (as Andy_P has already mentioned) works brilliantly with Google Maps or Google Earth. I use it often and it has been wonderful when planning excursions. Once your planned itinerary has been transferred to your Tomtom you can travel the route that you want to travel, not the route that Tomtom wants to travel.
Yes, You can sit at home with your PC and large screen and plan your routes to your hearts content. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

You mention PC/Mac utility "Home". unless I'm doing something wrong then it seems TYRE is not MAC compatible. In fact HOME for Mac seems to have other shortcomings too, eg cannot operate TomTom via Home on the Mac....
Also Google 'send to' function will not work via Mac either, all a bit frustrating! |

Correct. Tyre is not currently compatible with the Mac platform AFAIK. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

Ah yes, sorry. I always try not to be too "PC biased" while talking about Home, so I instinctively write that.
But I never said Tyre was Mac compatible... |

But you are correct Andy that Tyre is a very good program for the PC users. Unfortunate that TomTom has discontinued their SDK support of 3rd party programs. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |
