|
|
Hi I've searched the forum, and found some bits about voices and actually saying what road numbers you need to turn to turn onto as well as which exit or turning, but I'm still stuggling to find my way around the site. Does pocket GPS offer the voices to do this, and if so can someone post me the link to find them please? Sorry to be a pain, but there is a huge amount of info. on this site and when I don't know the technical name of the thing I am looking for its not easy to find what might not even be there. Chicken and eggs etc. |

Hi and greetings.
You don't say what TT you actually have and what version software etc - unless I missed it - it is 2350hrs.
To give you an example, I have a TT720, if I go into 'Change Preferences' then 'Voice Prefs' then select 'Speech Prefs' it gives me a load of options about reading out street names, numbers, weather, traffic warnings etc.
You can set what you want from there.
The voices will be on the TT already, but i think it will depend on what model you have and what version software as to the exact options available to you. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

You need to have "Text to Speech" capability on your machine and (hope I get this right) only the x20,x30,x40 models and one special version of the new XL can do it in the UK (there are a few more US models that can).
The two UK text to speech voices are "Kate" and "Simon". If you have one or both of those on your machine, you should be able to get what you want, if you have one of those selected.
But if you don't have them, there's nothing you can do to "upgrade" to use them, short of buying a new model. |

The TomTom XL that you mention in another post that you have cannot support Text To Speech, it is not possible to add this capability to the unit either - Mike |

FWIW, the 910 does text to speech too. |

And mine! However I find that text to speech struggles sometimes on more than two syllable words. I then have to check with the display name on the screen _________________ Gee-Pee

Thanks all
Yes, Mike it is a TomTom One XL that I have, bought it last year (I don't know how to find out what software it has on board unless there is an equivalent Help, about as you often get on the TT home and then I imagine if would just reflect the TT Home version that I have installed). I just wondered about the possibility because I have a friend with same TT and it does read out the road names - mine was bought more recently though. It's a shame that it looks like not being an option - the TT does a good job of sending me where I need to go, but occasionally the number of exits that I count round roundabouts sometimes varies if there is an exit to a 'private' and its never quite clear whether the TT has counted this in its total or not and in those situations a road number to look for would also be useful. |

You can check the software version number by tapping the sat strength meter lower right corner followed by the version box, the resultant screen offers lots of information about your device.
There has only been a single XL model sold in the UK with TTS which was exclusive to either Comet or Curries (I cannot remember which), this was on sale from just prior to Christmas. If your friends unit has TTS then it could possibly be a model from the USA or it has files on it that perhaps shouldn't be present - Mike |

Tap the satellite bars on your unit. The next screen shows the version of FIRMWARE installed. Tap the version number and the next screen shows the map installed and version number.
Also, use Explorer to look at the contents of your unit. Look at the specific map folder in use. Do you see any csspeech_XX.dat files there? You do need them for tts (Text to speech) and, hence, for read aloud Highway signs under voice preferences for a computer voice selected, if you can select one. _________________ David |

Nope, no files like that on my system
It is possible my friend got theirs from USA, I know they have visited over there in the past.
Can the required files not be 'acquired' from anywhere please? |
