Hey guys,

simple question I'm sure. I had a tomtom One v2 and purchased the spanish map, I have since upgraded to a TT 540 and was wondering if I can use the spanish map, and if so, do I just copy and paste the spanish map folder onto my 540.

Thanks in advance

It will not be possible. The maps are locked to each device the map was bought for. You will need to buy the map again im afraid.

Simple answer, I'm afraid.... Not if it is a downloaded map.

When you buy a map over the internet, you need to have the TomTom connected to the PC to download and install it. During that process, it creates an unlock key for that particular machine and map.

It's just like computer software, you haven't bought the map, only a licence to use it in a certain way.
TomTom licence you to use that map on one machine only, and go to great lengths to create ways to stop it being copied or used on another device.

When they produced maps on SD cards, the map was locked to that CARD rather then a particular machine.

I believe you can move some of the much older maps across devices such as the 6 series maps. I put France from my PDA on my Go530 and it asked for an activation code so I set it to automatic and it worked. A rather old map but it even now asks me if I want to subscribe to the map update service. I doubt I will ever use the map but could take it for a backup device on our annual trip to France.
