Map update service transferrable?

Has anyone had any experience of transferring the map update service from one device to another? It looks like my 740 has developed a traffic fault and as its within the 28 days statutory rights I'm thinking of returning it and buying a 940 which has dropped in price considerably at the store. I've signed up to the map update service though (although I havent downloaded any maps on it). Anyone managed to transfer (presumably paying the difference in cost)?
