Hello everyone.

Imagine that we want to track a GPS location of group of 50 Antarctica explorers, one of this explorers (leader) has a PDA and a conection with a BGAN satelite with this PDA we can send the GPS location of this explorer to a server, but what about the other ones location?

Is possible or....is there some device wich is carried by each explorer and transmit their own location to the PDA carried by the leader?

Any help would be very appreciated
Thankx

Give the group 100' of rope, tie them all together and put the leader in the middle, this way they will all be within a known pattern and specific location, also consider giving the leader a supply of hot water bottles for the PDA as the battery won't last more than an hour in those conditions - Mike

In short, the answer is "Yes, you can do it." I am assuming you have Antartic exploration sized budgets and will be able to source gadgets that will work in the conditions without hot water bottles.

How far away from the leader are the others expected to be, worst case, typical case. How often do you want updates to the Leaders PDA, and how reliable do they need to be. Do you want these updates to be automagical or can/should the leader request updates from each (all) of the group members? Is this considered a life critcal application, or just for entertainment value. Whats your budget?

Once you have answered the abve questions, you than start looking at if there a COT's solution or a custom one needs to be built.

Garmin do a RHINO unit that is a combined walkie-talkie and GPS that allows you to transmit your current location to another RHINO unit. You may be able to use that in some way.
