If this is covered elsewhere then feel free to tell me where to go..........
Whilst I plan my OS and map udates on my soon to arrive 720 are there any simple guides to carrying out the update. I know number one is to back up the SD card to your PC using explorer.
I assume that Home will give you options of upgrading Navcore, version by version in order first if you want. Then you switch to the map upgrade section ?
is it as simple as it sounds ? _________________ TomTom 720

Hello,
I did my new 720 last week.
You don't say if you have a TT at the moment, so I will assume not.
Back up your SD card to the PC, don't use Home to do it though. Drag and drop, or copy and paste to your PC, somewhere where you can easily find it.
Connect the TT and log onto Home. The 1st thing it will say is your map is out of date and do you want to upgrade - click on NO.
Home then goes to usual Home Page, select the 'Update' icon and it will list about 4 items I think it was, one of them will be system update for the x20 and x30 ranges.
Update the lot, you will then be asked to disconnect TT from the PC, it does a restart. Reconnect and go through the update process again (and ignore the new map offer).
That should be it, it was only 2 goes for me. Get your promotion code from the box, click on the 'activate promotion' icon and then follow to get the updated map.
if I've left anything out, sure someone will spot it

Quick addition to above, just remembered I had another software update 2/3 days after doing the 1st lot.
So, you may have 3 updates to go through.
Best to make sure you do all software updates before going for the maps, especially as there is a new map release today

My new ONE came with a Use Latest Map Guarantee. So surely you don't need to use the promotion code until it runs out.
My promotion code says Free Map Update is Valid until 31st October, 2009. Then I shall use it |

Top stuff guys...thank you.
So what you're saying is you go through the system update until TT has had enough of you and you have the latest OS....but then at that point you do the map upgrade...which is a one off job to the latest ..8.15 ?
Sounds easy ....can't wait.... _________________ TomTom 720

That's right.
Basically if you are still on any v7 software it will offer you a v7 map, and if you are on any v8 software it will offer you a v8 map. |
