If the plug connects to a 12 Volt power source it will contain a voltage regulator to control the voltage applied to the TomTom to 5V - cut the plug off and you will fry the PNA in a very short time.
Best bet is to purchase a ciggy cocket and wire that up in the vehicle, bury the whole lot behind the dash and plug the power lead into the socket, even consider some tape around the plug and socket to stop it parting company due to vibration, these sockets are easily available from Maplin/ Halfords etc - Mike |

If it's the same as my TT920T active mount, there will be a small black box into which the lead from the mount plugs into. There is then a fixed flying lead for you to connect somewhere to pick up the 12V.
As Mike said this "box" contains the regulation to go from 24/12V down to 5V, so you shouldn't try to remove it. I assume you bought the active mount (as opposed to one with a lead terminated in a cigarette lighter plug) as you intened to hire the wiring. You should aim to fix this box under the dash somewhere convenient. I used tie wraps to secure it to a convenient point and then tapped into the 12V used for the ciggy lighter.

There are different types of mount, if it came with a cigarette lighter plug then the answer is 'No'. The alternative 12/24v fixed installation option has the reduction electronics in a black box and comes with bare wires and fuse.
Have you bought the mount already? If not then the Carcomm is the better x20/x30 mount IMO. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not come across the carcomm mount. Having googled it, I can only find the basic mount. I have a brodit active mount for my One, and want something similar for my new 730. My car has the brodit car adaptor installed. Does the carcomm have an active mount, and can it be screwed to the brodit car adaptor? And since I haven't found any comparison reviews, why do you think it's better? |

I have reviewed the CNM-167 here.
The later CNM-168 is identical but adds audio pass-thur. I have mine attached to a Brodit ProClip. Thoroughly recommend it.
I reviewed an earlier Carcomm x20 cradle here which has better images and compared to the Brodit solution reviewed here the Carcomm is better designed and the later models are smaller answering my only gripe.
The TMC pass-thru on the cradle works superbly allowing a very neat install. _________________ Darren Griffin |
