Well it's not gonna do the Gadget Show many favours 
Maybe it's because they actually liked the S50 they recently reviewed despite it's battery dying, it's address look-up being poor and it rebooting!
Sorry but you'll surmise from my comments that despite my hoping and preying that they could rise from the ashes their latest devices are not going to save them.

Agreed ! I too would have liked/hoped to see them do better. I've been a loyal supporter for yonks and my present N20 has done all that I would wish of it. I was hoping that their new range (of which we have only yet seen the S100) would have solved their problems. So why have they launched a new range in the antipodes and (under Mio's name) in Europe and why are they still dragging their heels in the UK ?

Well I waited nine months for "good things" such as fixing the myriad problems with the earlier S-series units. Was I being impatient, do you think?

They're just very disappointing. Nothing really new, 3D buildings is about is. SmartST is as dated as ever etc etc.
We'd been hoping Mio might invest in the platform rather more heavily than this which is a makeover on an already very dated platform

BUT, the european arm of the merger/takeover (Mio/Navman) seems to have come up with some innovative stuff in a range of eight new models in the 500 range (see here) as an example. However, they are said to only be available in Europe, but that is questionable in view of my recent converstion with a UK seller who seems to think they will have them on their shelves in January.

Out of interest, what would you say is innovative? The Local search is welcomed I agree but nothing else is new or market leading and the whole point is this is just bolt-ons on a platform that think dated.
I don't mean to knock Navman, my very first nav device was Navman and for some time they were THE innovators. I'd just been hoping that the Mio buy out would have given them the cash to regain the initiative and give TomTom/Garmin a run for their money. Nothing I've seen comes anywhere close sadly

Well, Darren, innovative (for Mio/Navman) is the slim design, the 'free' upgrade to the latest 2009 maps (when they are available), the integrated FM, integrated TMC module - it's really large 4.7inch touch screen with no buttons and 33 countries pre-loaded.
Yes, maybe these facilities are available on some other devices, but I really think the design and looks of this range is a step in the right direction. I've been a fan of Navman from my first one - I have tried others - I've been lucky and really have not had any permanent problems with mine.
My only frustration with Navman is the poor support e.g. if you pose a question to Support, you can get different, conflicting answers from different people - if you get any answer at all.

I don't think Navman are unique in struggling to provide decent support.
What I would like to see is a new OS, an RDS-TMC services that could actually receive a signal (again I'm not attacking Navman here, no-one has yet solved this little riddle properly!), a basic/advanced feature set so that you can have it simple if you prefer or can customise if you wish.
A docking cradle and decent desktop/web based configuration/management would also be nice and a connected service (which they already have so hats off for that!).

I have no argument with that list. One would think it relatively simple to provide. As far as the TMC signals are concerned, I must be lucky as I've not really had a problem - particularly in Europe. But then I tend to use it as a warning rather than auto- re-routing. Some of the re-routes anyway are so long that its better to have a rest in a queue than spend more on fuel.
Really, I think we agree. It probably gets down to personal choice when choosing a new device and what suits.
