Hi,

First of all... Thanks for the excellent site and service.

I have a Magellan Maestro 4050 which quite happily works with last month's speed camera file. This month, however, after I copied it across to the device, it failed to load it - the system rebooting after around 1 minute. Last month's (larger) file still loads fine.

As you will be aware, the number of POIs exceeds the 10k that one can edit - though this appeared not to be a constraint internally within the device. Is anyone in a position to have a look at the file to determine whether there is any issue with it that causes the problem?

Best Regards

Ken

i've downloaded the files and opened them in teh poieditor without any problems - are you able to do that?

i wonder if your download was somehow corrupted? have you tried redownloading it and trying again?

The first download of the file opened fine in POIEditor - and I got the exceeds 10k records message when I did so.

Both downloads - both copied straight across (as was the previous month's file which works) gave the same reboot problem

That suits me fine. I see no point in you expending unnecessary effort when there's a weekly release.

I'll download the next file, when it's available, and then report on the outcome. From this we'll know soon enough whether this is a one off issue or something possibly more serious.

Bad news, guys. Still rebooting and not accepting the selected - 15 Oct - file. I used the default factory file (with different images) as the starting point and simulated a route past known speed cameras to confirm that this was the case.

can you tell me which was the last version that worked?

are you able to generate your own MGLN files using the csv files that are also downloaded?

has there been any software updates etc?

do you have a spare device i could play with Wink Laughing

Last version that worked was the September speed camera file. It still works when I reload it.

I can load the CSV file into the POIEditor. However, it only permits 10 categories - there are 11 (including the Licence/copyright - default category); and only permits 10000 POIs - there are 11157 - I had to delete the licence (default category) to get past the category limit. Without firstly deleting the surplus categories and then excess POIs I cannot save the file.

Given that the previous working file (September) had 12567 POIs and 9 categories, I have to surmise that the additional two categories (taking it over the maximum 10 permitted in the POIEditor) is most likely to be the cause of the problem. Although a excessive number of POIs is accepted by the device (when copied over), this may not be the case with a surfeit of categories.

Please note that the need to delete the excessive number of Categories and POIs makes it impossible for me to test this theory.

Nevertheless, if you can revise the categories (keeping it down to 10) we may be able to address this. I appreciate that the Default category - with its single record - is probably of little practical use as a speed camera. However, I understand why you wish to embed this POI in its own category.

I am unaware of any software updates having been released. Therefore the unit has not been upgraded and is in its "out of the box" state.

This is the only Magellan I have so I am unable to lend you this.

so basically it's the addition of the 't' cameras - i'll look into how we can deal with this.

for now you could manually edit the file...

open the csv file in notepad and press CTRL+H (replace) then change Tspecs to Specs (make sure you have 'match case' ticked)

then do the same for Tgatso to change to Gatso

this will then put all the temp specs in with the main specs and the temp gatso's in with the main gatsos and should get you back to the right number of categories.

THEN....!

open the file in poi editor and create the MGLN files.

Wish that it were that simple! POIEditor will permit me to open a CSV file with more than 10 categories and/or 10k POIs. However POIEditor will not permit me to save a MGLN file that exceeds 10 categories or 10k POIs.

I don't know what tool you use but if it is available to me then I could do what you are asking. Otherwise I'll have to wait till next week for a MGLN file with no more than 10 categories.
