Quick question - if you please - I have just changed jobs and am getting a company car (Ford Mondeo - yawn). This will be the Ghia version without in-built sat nav. Lots of travel both UK & European to do. So I need to buy a sat nav unit that will do the job. However, am concerned that I will buy a unit that will not work inside the heated Mondeo windscreen. Has anyone got any advice for me out there?

I am worrying about nothing, is there a unit that would be good to go for?

I was looking at the TomTom ONE v4 Western Europe - would this fit the bill at £144.10 from Amazon etc etc etc

I look forward to your advice and guidance

Welcome to the forum, I use Mondeo cars quite often supplied via Hertz and have never had a problem with the Nav units, the screen heater uses heated elements within the glass laminate structure which doesn't affect the GPS signal anywhere close to the problems you get when the car has Athermic glass (Heat Reflective)

Mainly I use TomTom devices, but also a number of GPS equipped mobile phones and other devices from SatMap, Garmin etc - non seem to struggle with reception when using this model of car - Mike

If its any help I have the New Focus Ghia which also has the heated windscreen which I presume is the same as the Mondeo and I have never had a problem at all with GPS reception.

Thanks for the posts guys - its a funny world. The Mondeo will arrive in 12-16 weeks (I am told) and have quite unluckily drawn a Citroen Picasso C4 thing for the duration - if I buy a Satnav now will the windscreen in this vehicle pose problems? That is until the Mondeo arrives?

I very much doubt that one of the newer Sat Nav devices will have a problem under Athermic glass, but if it does struggle let the unit acheive a sat position fix before putting it in the car - and remember never drive off without a position fix as this would further compound the problem - Mike
