Hi all
Can you help, I have been looking and am confused. What do I go for there is the Navigon, route 66, Tom Tom and Garmin etc. Halfords and Comet have quite a lot under £100 but reviews I read just confuse me more!
Route 66 Maxi
Sony NVU53
Garmin Nuvi 200W
Garmin 600
Navigon 2100 Maxi
Navman S30 Deluxe
Tom Tom 1
Help please what is the best
Thanks |

Hi and welcome :D
here are my thoughts on the following:
Route 66 Maxi - i've never used route66 but mike alder has and, from memory, he wasn't that impressed? let him answer though!
Sony NVU53 - sony pulled out of the navigation market so it may be next to impossible to get updates and/or support
Garmin Nuvi 200W - a good unit, good support / updates etc, compatible with our databases (POIs and speed cams) - the 200 is garmin's entry-level unit though so lacks some extra features (bluetooth, text-to-speech)
Garmin 600 - pretty much the same as the 200 but with mp3 player and a flip-out aerial
Navigon 2100 Maxi - my experiance of navigon is that the software is very slooooooow :D also very difficult to add your own POIs etc
Navman S30 Deluxe - not a bad basic unit but no ability to add your own POIs
Tom Tom 1 - tomtom equivalent to the garmin nuvi 200 pretty much. it's their entry-level unit.
to be honest i would have a fiddle with the nuvi200w and the tomtom 1 to see which interface you like the best. you're either a tomtom or a garmin person!

Route 66 version 7 was a very capable application, the newer version 8 is a pathetic waste of time, the downside to the version 7 application is one of very out of date maps, so in short cross this off your list, unless R66 add back in to the software custom POI support I wouldn't entertain this device/ software.
As per MaFt's suggestion go and have a play with the TomTom and Garmin and decide which works best for you, bear in mind with the new map update scheme recently introduced by TomTom will make updates considerably cheaper than the competition products - Mike |

Not got one myself, but have used one and thought it was an excellent machine.
If you don't need all the bells and whistles the more expensive models promise (and often don't quite deliver!) it's their best model IMHO. |

For a similar price to the ONE XL you can get a 520, apx £135 from expansys, worth the extra i believe. Halfords also do it for £138, enter the voucher code: 'HALTTGO520' on the Halfords website, you should be able to pick it up in store.
Also the Tomtom ONE XL V2 Europe for £115 from ebuyer

To confuse you more...
PentagonGPS have the nuvi 310 (with 2008NT mapping) for less than £76 inc VAT. It's similar to the nuvi 610 but not widescreen.
This is a nice unit - my wife has one - with handsfree but NO TTS.
Take a look here
I have no affiliation with PentagonGPS.
Don't quote me on this but as it's a new unit you may even qualify for a free upgrade to the new V2009 mapping from Garmin which has just been released - which would probably upgrade it to All Europe from UK&I if it was like last year's upgrade. At the very least you would be able to get the upgrade and still not be much over the £100. _________________ Phil |
