this has happened twice!
just stops and whatever was coming through the speaker at the time goes into a loop
only a reset will stop it
using all latest software
also had the famous outo switch on and loss of audio when using BT
anyone else?
Me too - it's happening on just about every call so I've had to disable hands free because it's just too much of a issue. I've reverted to using an in ear hands free device but would much prefer my TT to work properly

What firmware are you using _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr.
thanks
am using 8.4
another problem i may open a new thread for is the sudden lack of sound while on a call
again this has happened a few times
its like the TT thinks the call is diverted to the handset. again only a reset will cure it
i would like to return to the original 7.2 firmware but when i do i cant update the map arghhhh, may try 7.4
so far the device is 'not fit for purpose'
TomTom response is as follows and appears to have solved all the above problems
quick too, very impressed:
We suggest that you reset your HandsFree connection, to do this, please follow the steps below:-
- Check to see if your phone is compatible with the TomTom device and can be used with Handsfree. See http://www.tomtom.com/phones/compatibility/
- Check that your TomTom device has handsfree capability. Not all TomTom devices have this feature.
Only the Go 500, Go 700, Go 510, Go 710, Go 910, Go 520, Go 720 and Go 920 have this feature. Please note that the TomTom One, TomTom One XL range does not have Handsfree calling.
- Connect your TomTom to your computer and switch it on.
- Open TomTom Home and download the latest application and phone database updates.
- Disconnect your TomTom to finish the installation of any updates.
- Reconnect your TomTom to the computer.
- Close TomTom Home completely. (On a PC you will need to close TomTom Home from the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. To the left of the computer clock, you should see a red icon for TomTom Home. Right click on it and choose exit)
- Click on the following link to follow the instructions in how to install the TomTom Clear Flash tool-
http://www.tomtom.com/6195
- Follow the instructions on this webpage in how to install the clear flash tool to your device.
- Reset your TomTom to factory settings via the Change Preferences Menu
- Reset your TomTom with a paperclip in the reset hole for 20 seconds, see http://www.tomtom.com/6965
- On your Mobile phone remove all Bluetooth bondings from the phone
- Remove the phones battery for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
- Turn the phone back on and make sure it is visible for other Bluetooth devices
- On the TomTom, tap onto the Mobile Phone icon to initiate the hands free connection.
Your Handsfree connection should now be set up correctly. To test this out, try calling a landline number via the TomTom, and also try calling your Mobile Phone number from a landline.
I can vouch it will happen again, I have a 720, that went back to TomTom, 3 weeks ago so they could look at it, and they continue to do so, but they do contact me to let me know they are still working on it.
Well they had to take it back, as they finally bowed to pressure, with me having had an outstanding incident since February, for this problem and having exhausted every single option they could think of before taking it back.
I was fortunate, I could call on a range of different mobiles all listed as compatable with TT 720, not one would last more than a day before the dreaded stutter loop occured.
I do have an idea that possible cause may be when you move from one mobile mast area into another, that the signal fails in some way to be recognised by the tomtom circuitry, so that the dreaded loop occurs.
And with TomTom repairs and testing only able to do a static test in the lab, they can confirm hands free works in that situation.
Has anyone had the loop syndrome when parked up and static? _________________ Mick

At the moment, I've been stutter free for a whole blissful fortnight.
My "cure" was to do all the business, clear flash, reformat, reset, everything. But MOST significantly, I disconnected my RDS-TMC antenna. I had previously been chopping and changing between my 920 and 720 to try getting a stutter free life, but each time I'd been changing the windscreen location to match and connect the RDS-TMC antenna. Somebody pointed out that the gnsdata file was a problem and that being in the TMC area persuaded me to try without the antenna connected. So far, as I've said, I've been clear for two weeks.
But, like Andy, I have to confess I'm simply waiting for it to happen again. If it does before the x40 is released for sale (or if the x40 suffers the same problem), I shall have to decide whether to put up with it with (occasional/frequent?) doing the business again, or to go back to a Jabra BT earpiece. Brilliant and faultless though the Jabra is, it can't hold a candle to the on-screen TomTom hands free performance. _________________ Dennis
