|
|
Hi
Is it possible to buy just UK and Ireland maps for the 910? Neither TomTom Home nor TomTom.com give me the option in fact the only European maps I am offered are Western & Central Europe and the Alps.
I am still on the original maps version 650.1052 but do not drive in the rest of Europe enough to justify the full price of Western and central Europe so would just like to buy the UK & Ireland.
Naively I decided to try and get around this by telling TomTom.com that I had a Go710 and purchased the latest UK maps assuming the 710 and 910 maps would be the same format and this purchase has gone through however this map must be coded to the Go710 as TomTom Home will not allow me to install this map as it is not suitable for my device.
Thanks |

Seriously don't bother (especially if the map you use is by Navteq), updating is nothing more than a quick way for the likes of tomtom to make a quick buck out of people who think they are getting a updated map, which they are not. Especially if it by Teleatlas (many people have learnt that the hard way).
For work usage i have found that the tomtom WE 660.1223 (Navteq) map absolutely destroys the v720.1802 uk & ie (Teleatlas) map for navigating. |

I would phone tomtom support tomorrow morning and explain that you made a mistake by selecting 710 instead of 910 and that you would like the UK & ROI map for the 910.
I had a problem with my traffic receiver on wed when it stopped being recognised, on thurs am i had the package to send back the faulty receiver.
No matter what people have said on this forum, when telephoned, i have always got excellent support from tomtom. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Give them a ring to resolve this, the number is 0845 161 0009 the UK & ROI map should fit and more importantly work fine on the 910, I have this map on my 930 for example.
As for the map issues mentioned by Adamj perhaps you should consider comparing the latest map with what he believes to be better around the A1M - I know which one I prefer due to it matching the road layout correctly (and it isn't Navteq) - Mike |

After a day of discussion with TomTom support they have come to the conclusion that you are not able to purchase a stand alone map of the UK and Ireland for the Go910. I am only able to purchase new versions of maps I already own i.e. Western and Central Europe, North America or new maps e.g Turkey, the Alps etc.
This seems rather unfair. As a Go710 owner I could upgrade UK maps for £40, as a 910 owner I am unable to do so and would have to pay £75 for W&CE to get the latest data for the UK. |

I can't select it in their webshop either.
I'm pretty sure that is a change of policy (or a cock-up!). You certainly USED to be able to have a UK only map.
Just out of interest, have you tried buying it via Home and selecting "show all" rather than the default "recommended"? It's probably no different, but my kids won't let me onto the PC that's got Home on it to check!
I would get back to TomTom and complain (and ask for a reason why they are doing this). |

Yes, I have selected all and there is no uk.
The man on the helpdesk said this was a new policy to allow you to upgrade maps already purchased only. To me this reasoning falls apart quite easily as if you buy a unit with just UK on out of the box you could purchase France on a stand alone basis as a new map via Home.
It seems 910 owners are being penalised for purchasing the more expensive unit in the first place.
It is a bit frustrating as 99.99% of the time I will only ever be driving in the UK. |
