Hi,
A friend of mine moved house about 6 months ago to a place in Micheldever Station in Hampshire.
As I've just updated my maps on my tomtom I thought I'd key in the postcode of SO21 3BZ and get a route to it as the address obviously wasn't on the older map.
The tomtom gets to SO213B but then doesnt find the Z. All other last letter choices arent near the destination.
However, when I go online to the AA route planner it finds the postcode no problem.
I then tried the street name method - Mill Place, Micheldever Station - on the tomtom - that's not listed either.
Again however it is listed on the AA route planner.
Can someone try keying in the above info to their tomtom please to see if they get the same results?
And if they do, is there a reason for this at all?
Simon. |

Quite a common problem with new developments...
It can take up to 2 years for them to appear on the released maps from the sat nav companies.
The fact you can find it on internet engines shows that the mapping companies (predom. NAVTEQ and TELEATLAS) know of it.
You'll just have to hope it makes the next release of the maps.
Just to make you happy - it's not on the 2008 mapping from Garmin either! _________________ Phil |

Hi Phil, thanks for your reply.
Doesnt this then make upgrading the maps on our tomtoms/garmins a tad pointless if it takes 2 years for the sat nav maps to be upgraded? |

Which postcode file version have you got installed on the device? you can find this information out by opening the ukpostcode.ver file which is in the zip folder on your device using NotePad - this might be due to an out of date file on the device - Mike |

Hi Mike,
The tomtom is at home at the moment so will check once I get home after work.
Do you know the postcode file version that it should be at all? |

Hi,
I dont have a ukpostcode.ver file within the zip folder of my tomtom.
The only file there is called Great_britain.postal which was last modified january 2005.
Do you think this is the offending file? If so any ideas as to from where it can be overwritten at all please? |

Hi,
I've updated the postcode file from that link but the tomtom still doesnt recognise SO21 3BZ.
Based on previous comments I'm assuming it will be included in the next map rollout though.
Thanks for your ideas on this one.

Even with updated maps, there hasnt been a postcode file update for a very long time. Even though i report every new postcode i find, with every recent map release that i`ve bought there is never a new postcode file.
So i wouldnt expect a new postcode database with every new map! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

I think there IS a never version than you can get as a download.
It is being included on machines sold with v8 mapping, but it is not included when you buy a v8 map alone.
Typical TomTom.... |
