I have a Nuvi 360T. Some time ago I 'upgraded' the voice I always use on it, Emily(TTS). Since then the voice seems to be too quiet even on the loudest volume.
I have also got on there Liz announcing speed cameras in a very loud voice.
Does anyone know how I can get Emily to speak louder? |

If you poke around inside the .VPM file, you will find the string Code: | {voice_volume}60{/voice_volume} |
(The number may well be different).
NOTE: The "{" and "}" are actually 'less than'/'greater than' chars., but I cannot get them to display on here.
You can overwrite this with a larger number (such as 99!), using a 'Hex' Editor such as XVI32
(This will make some improvement, but the max. level I measured from my Nüvi 310's weedy 250mW o/p is only 80dBspl. )
EDIT: It said 83dB originally - but that was an error - it was the 760 that managed 83dB

Plus that utility written by turboccc allows you to increase this value on the TTS file (among many other things) through a gui - in case you'd rather use something like that, than a hex editor. |

I had this problem with my 660. The suggestions above work - but I found the distortion introduced into the TTS voice was too distracting. I suspect the distortion is taking place within the software algorithms (i.e. it's maxing out the amplitude).
I, too, use the Liz voice for traffic and found the levels to be too high wrt TTS voices. I reduced the amplitude within the Liz voice files to compensate. I found that a 50% reduction was about right. I then play the whole lot through my car radio (via 3.5mm socket) and it's very nice indeed. I'm pretty sure I had the modified files uploaded to this site (they would have been .mp3 format). Perhaps they will make their way onto the download area eventually.
Yes - the speaker in the 660 (and my wife's 310) can't handle much volume either - shame really 'cos the quality of the TTS voice is remarkably good when played through a half decent system. _________________ Phil |

Blimey, seems more complicated then I thought.
Anyway, Id try that utility by turboccc. How do I get hold of it?
I'd like the volume of 'Liz' but just a bit lower. |
