VIA MICHELIN X960 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROBLEM

I am new to the site so please be gentle with me.
I have just purchased a new Viamichelin X960 NE but cannot install the software. My PC , running on XP, just does not seem to be recognsing the DVD ROM. I have tried going through my computer and actually clicking on the DVD ROM drive but still without any success.
Am I doing something wrong? Any help/info/advice would be very much appreciated.

Not trying to insult your skills or knowledge, but I suppose that your computer has a DVD drive not just a CD drive? I had this problem when I put a DVD in my CD drive instead of my DVD Drive
If your comp has no probs reading other DVDs then it seems possible that the VM DVD is faulty.
Try it in someone else's computer.

I have a DVD ROM that has always worked perfectly but on trying further DVDs it is now not recognising anything.I am now completely baffled.Could it be the driver?
