Just wondering how much bigger in file size are the new maps over the previous version? |

GB & ROI ver 7.20 map is 164.4mb according to the tomtom home shop.
GB & ROI ver 8.10 (for a go 520) is 167.2mb. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Much of that will be down to the additional Advanced lane guidance data and maybe an expanded POI.dat.
But there's no reason to assume a new map will always be bigger than an old one though is there? (Especially as TomTom are "improving" their compression algorithms all the time). |

Hi Copperbeech
If you are thinking of updating your present map be careful, its an expensive pastime keeping up with so-called map updates. I have no doubt that one would struggle to find any difference between my map (v720) and the new map (v8.10). I agree that there are extra bells and whistles on the new map but up-dating? Nah! My 720 would get me to any destination that the 8.10 would.
And I would have an extra £100 to spend when I got there. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I would have to disagree with the statement that there is 'no difference' between 7.20 and 8.10. Where i live in Newcastle, there are two major junctions that have been added to the mapping data. One of them is only half finished, so i would check your local area first on the google maps before deciding whether to or not to upgrade. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

For sure. And as I have a 730 with 805 there is probly even less reason to upgrade. Although maybe IQ routing might be more accurate? |

Hi falkirk81
Well, I must admit that I am surprised that you have found a map addition on your new map. But, the changes must be few. I purchased my map v720 Central and Western Europe on May 25th when it came onto the market and it cost me £74.95. I have just returned from France and Spain without noticing any discrepancy that could have sent me the wrong direction or got me lost. To get the new map I would have to find the best part of £100 and I would feel aggrieved if I couldn’t find any alterations. And remember, in another three months, or less, they will bring out another map. More expensive than ‘her indoors’. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
