Hi,

Picked up a TTR v2 for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. The mounting system fitted easily to the bike, although I'll probably buy some extra bits from RAM to move it to a better position. I attached the battery cable to the bike battery and clicked into the bike dock. TTR started charging. Everything nice and rosey.

And then the niggles started.

The two most important things to me are the routes calculated and the instructions on how to get there, obviously. Second is the handsfree calling. On a bike this is a major bonus to have. Being able to accept calls on the move, and make them by just pulling over is wonderful. For those who don't know, the TTR bluetooths to headset that fits on the side of the helmet with and earpiece that velcros inside. Theres a flexible mic that you position inside the helmet near your mouth.

Problems:

1. Audio instructions - the headset is nice and loud (in fact I've turned it down to 40% vol) but the sound drops out 0.5 secs after the instructions start. It comes back almost immediately but this means "After three hundred yards, turn left" comes out as "After ____ hundred yards, turn left". How many yards? 100? 400? *Crunch*! Oh. I've just hit the back of a car looking for a junction on the left. This is not good. TomTom have said "oh there may be some software things we can do to sort this, but you have to supply system info, porduct codes etc.". I haven't had time to do this yet, but this should be working out of the box.

2. Handsfree does not work - My phone is on the compatibility list. Sony Ericsson K800i. It pairs fine. I make a test call. It works fine. I recieve a test call. It works fine. I turn the TomTom off until tomorrow's journey. Next day, when I recieve and accept a call, there's no sound in the headset. I make a call and I can't hear anything and nor can the person I'm calling. It turns out that the sound hasn't transfered from the phone to the headset and all the person calling can her is the sound of a motorbike being picked up by the mic in the phone, the phone being in my bag.
If I press the reset button on the TomTom and turn it on again, I can make / receive calls until I switch the device off again. Rubbish.

3. Charging. Fitted the cable. Charged fine. Next day it wouldn't charge. TomTom support said OK we'll send you out some replacement bits. They sent out the mount system minus the electrical bits. Wrong. I told them that it was either the battery cable or the bike mount, because I'd tested them with an ammeter, and they said that they'd send the battery cable first to see if it worked as they can't send replacement bike docks, they have to be sent back for testing first. Despite the fact the battery cable has power (as tested by me) I have to wait for the new one before sending them the bike dock back and then not being able to use the thing at all. Been waiting a week so far.

4. Wireless data - you must be joking. Just returns server errors trying to activate my Traffic trial. When receiving data (or trying to) it disconnects from the phone so you can't receive calls (if that feature actually worked).

I've had a TomTom Go 700 for ages and it pairs with my K800i with no problems, doing handsfree and wireless data (for Traffic) at the same time.

TomTom have got a week before I demand a new replacement or my money back.

Sorry for the rant / long post. Anyone else have issues like this?

Grrrr.

Stuart

Hi stuming, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but after owning a Rider 1, I wouldn't have a Rider if you paid me. My unit has been back so many times to TT that in the 1st 3 months they had had it 10 weeks.
I was advised here to send it back and I wish I had done so. There are still problems with mine and TT home. Plus the new software keeps returning settings to factory spec on its own!!!
As yours is so new send it back and get a refund.
If you whant a TT then get a box from RAM mounts to fit it in and save loads of cash.
Good luck

Hi

I have a TT2 used it for probably 12 months phone is a Motorola Kazr.

I experienced charging problems at first but found it was me not seating the device fully into the holder. As time has gone on this has got easier. I have no problems with the Bluetooth connection provided I turn the headset and phone on before the TT.

I have the TT set to turn on and off when its placed in/ removed from the mount, however most of the time I use the internal battery as it will give a couple of hours or so of use.

I have not tried data connections yet.

In general I only answer call on the bike with " I'm riding Ill call you back" so not able to advise the quality of conversations. Not something I would recommend personally.

In general it does what I need.
