I'm new to Garmin having used a PDA with Navigon before, and one of the things I can't seem to be able to do with my 255T is to plot a route from A to B and scroll through the whole route on the screen before setting off in case I'd prefer a different route and would want to insert a 'via' to ensure I went the way I wanted and not the way the Nuvi wanted me to go.

Is this possible? The Quick Start Guide doesn't throw any light on this as far as I can see.

I have a 350 but I think it works the same.
If you don't have GPS on (ie the antenna is down) when you select a "Where to" it asks you if you want to simulate driving the route. The journey is actual speed and slow and I can't see a way of speeding it up as on the Tom Tom.

On any route with GPS on or off, you can click on the screen and you get a "from above" map which you can zoom out to see the whole journey. When simulating you can tap on the route anywhere and select "Set position" and it will continue from there.

The whole route is also listed by tapping the top green bar of course.

Many thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes, I subsequently found the simulate route option but, as you say, it is too slow to be of any practical use for anything but the shortest of journeys.

It seems that one needs the GPS active to be able to show a prospective route although once that is done the various options you have listed then become available.

I guess it's just a matter of getting used to a new system. And it certainly is speedy at getting a fix and I like having the speed clearly displayed which my Navigon system didn't do, at least not legibly when driving.

All in all, a nice unit. It's just a pity that the text to speech facility that was promoted for this unit before it was released never actually made it to the UK version.

That's why I bought the 350 (about £125) because it has TTS. Reading out the street names for me on holiday this year helped enormously when I was lost!

Set up the route with GPS on and then tap the green bar across the top of the Map screen (i.e. the one you'd normally leave it on when driving). On many models it'll allow you to scroll through the routes instructions.

edit: Which m-a-r-k already mentioned before....

Not necessarily. The green bar method should be available even with GPS off. Just say no to the simulation and go into the map.
