I HAVE VERSION 5.0.10 FOR THE X950-T AND WANT TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE TO A BETTER VERSION.
ON EBAY THEY ARE SELLING
Viamichelin Europe 2007 Maps on 2GB SD Card
DO I HAVE TO UPGRADE MY CURRENT SOFTWARE FIRST OR CAN I JUST BUY THIS CARD?

There isn't a later version of the software you can have for a 950 (I'm pretty sure Version 7 is not compatible with the 950, I'm not quite so sure about Version 6 but can't find any info on the VM site). To see if 2007 maps will be ok with 5.0.10 you probably need to speak to VM helpdesk if they are still there, unless you get better answers here. The OLD VM site says:

The ViaMichelin Online Store is now closed for good.

All items ordered up until 29th May 2008 will be delivered in the usual way.

Remember, you can get the latest available maps, for up to 90 days from your original date of purchase, click here (offer valid for ViaMichelin Navigation GPS X-950, X-950T, X-960, X-970T and X-980T until 30th September 2008)

So they may be able to help if they are so inclined. If not, then at least they ought to be able to advise on compatibility, and you could then see what the internet/ebay etc offers (Obvious Health Warnings Here)

GOOD LUCK!!!

PS - I've just found the following extract on page 15 of the following thread, from "Deepfour", who was the VM country sales & support manager at the time:

ViaMichelin launch V7 "New Edition" satnav softwar

Quote:
...GPS systems equipped with ViaMichelin Navigation software, version 6 or higher (ViaMichelin Navigation X-960, X-970, X-970T, X-980T and X-950/X-950T and equipped with a 2007/2008 Edition map...

This puts a slightly more definite slant on things, but I still think a call to VM is the first step to see what CAN be done and then to find out about availability of software/maps etc.
