No need for that any more. You can specify personalised warnings for each of the categories - but you have to use the computer voice for that.

Laughing Yes, I can confirm that you can set your own warnings on the 910, but... this is were I found the first 910 bug.

When you setup a POI warning you are required to enter the distance that the warning is triggered. If you need to edit the POI warning the distance setting keeps increasing by approx. 50 yards each time you edit the POI. Logged with TomTom

Also you will find if you enter your own voice warnings the computer voice reads them a bit quick, this can be helped with punctuation,

Mine was Caution Gatso 30, and it was read to quickly, changed it to Caution! Gatso, 30. and it reads much better

According to Loquendo there are whole sequence of commands that can be used to change the inflection and voice but TomTom have not provided any details,

Check here to hear some of the demos

I am going to try these later, but some of these expressive cues from the interactive demo may work with TomTom

Just bear in mind you only have 60 characters to play with, once you hit this limit the unit refuses to accept any further input - I will be editting my chosen comands later though for the same reason it rattles them off a little too quick - very impressive in use though, all the same it will be nice to refine the alerts.

As for the increase in distance each time you edit the Warn when near POI, at least it increases, this is better than it going down (like TTN5,21 did) Make a written note of the distances you prefer for each given speed camera and when editting the values make sure you re-select the correct distance each time mine are set relative to time in seconds at the detection speed of the camera i.e. 70mph = 1027 yards (I think! - there is a post elsewhere with the values on for the speeds or work it out it is only simple maths at the end of the day - Mike

Hi Mike

I found that the Punctuation Really helps

Caution Gatso 30 was just to quick

Caution, Gatso! 30. sounds a ton better!

Although For Mobiles : Beware, Censored , In, Ditch! 30 is my favorite!

Cheers

Richard
Edit once MikeAlder refering to the forces in such a way will cause offence to a number of members of this site, they have a job to do and not a very nice one at times

One thing that would be nice and is missing is a preview option, there's no way of testing the POI Warining until you next trip.

Speed cam this is very easy to do - its the same it has always been, go to advanced planning select a start point from the options then a destination (use local knowledge to make sure it goes past a few speed cameras - I can supply a few to try if you need this info as Blackpool has loads of the devices) then go to "View Route" and select "Show route Demo" set the speed to 100% sit back and enjoy the virtual trip - Mike

Cheers for the advice, it's possible to test pre recorded sounds, just seems strange why they haven't included a 'Test' button on the page you enter the text.

Why not ask them in Edinburgh - in person - I cannot answer this one, all I will say is I happy with the set-up and it appears to work, only 150 miles to base this on but so far very good - Mike

Don't want to hijack this thread, but do the new units allow you to hear the POI warnings even if the direction instruction sound is disabled? With my TT GO Classic if you turn the sound off it means you can't get the audible speed camera warnings.
I seem to recall that when I had TT3 on my PDA a couple of years ago this worked and it has always disappointed me that the Go couldn't support it (unless there's a magic setting I haven't discovered somewhere).
When travelling with my wife in particular, the instructions really annoy her but then if I turn them off I risk missing the warnings - fortunately it hasn't resulted in me getting snapped yet, but I suspect it is only a matter of time (19% of all drivers and rising, according to something I read recently).

There is a silent voice freely available which will enable you to acheive this.

But sometimes I do want the directions - in fact, I guess I want the speed camera alerts on all the time and the disable sound to only affect the directions.
I'm happy using the couple of taps on the screen method to turn the sound on and off but changing the voice seems to be a bit more fiddly.
