Go to Change Preferences/ Change Voice and see which voice is selected, also is it greyed out (it shouldn't be), scroll through the list to locate the one you want to use.
If it isn't the above what output volume is selected, tap the lower left corner of the screen to access the volume slider - Mike |

Hope that fixes it, but I'm concerned when you say "When you first switch on on you get the the tomtom sound"...
You SHOULDN'T get that sound when you just "switch on", only after a re-boot. |

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Yes Andy you are right I get that tomtom sound after a reboot.
mikealder I have done that and still no sound. On setting the sound level there is an option to test the level,I tap that and no sound.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. |

Is there anything for Speaker Preferences if you go through the change preference menu options, I don't think there should be but I am little lost as to other suggestions.
When you checked the voice wasn't greyed out can you scroll through the various voices to see if any appear in colour and if so does pressing test make it speak - check all langauges rather than just UK - Mike |

Hi Mike,
I have tried several different langauges and none work.I have also downloaded a new voice and that doesn't work either. Is it possible there is something wrong with the SD card?.If so how would check it to find out?.
Thanks |

What software version are you on? (tap satellite strength bars and read off next page)
You could try re-installing software:
1. Make full backup with Windows Explorer (see FAQs for instructions)
2. With Explorer, DELETE all the LOOSE files on on the TT (i.e NOT in any folders) (DO NOT delete any folders)
3. Again with Explorer delete the contents of the "program" folder in "My documents/ TomTom/Home/ Downloads/ Program". (Path may be different on your machine, you can check the location in Home itself with Tools menu/ Home Preferences/Folder locations)
4. Connect TT to computer and run Home.
5. Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install them, if not:-
6. Click "Update my TomTom - wait to see what it offers you.
7. Select the Application update and wait for it to install.
8. Click on 'Device - Disconnect Device', wait for it to re-boot and ask if you want to connect to the computer, select "No" and when you see the normal navigation screen, turn off and disconnect. |

Download it here: http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=6211&Lid=4
Run it with the unit connected to the computer. You need not use Home for it.

Did it before?
Does it if you put those loose files back from the backup?
Do you have Home v2.3?
One of TomTom's best help files is on this topic...
SEE HERE and click on the "Device is not recognised by Home" section. They say is an 'image' file you may need. |
