What POIs? Are they ones which you have created yourself?

When answering, give us the assist of what device you've got them on.

Also, have you got backups (made using Windows Explorer) on your HDD?

I thought for a moment you had mentioned POILoader, which is a program used for uploading POI files onto Garmin devices.

But now I see you said "POIEdit"

That implies one of two things you're asking....

If all you want to do is open the POI file in POIEdit, so you can see the POI entries on a map, edit the names or locations or add new entries, then you just download the POI files (from wherever you find them on the web) to your PC as you would with any file.
You can save the files to the desktop, into "My Documents" or anywhere else you like.
Then in POIEdit use the "open" menu to browse to the place on the PC you saved the file and it will open it.

However, if you are hoping to use POIEdit's automatic download and install process that it advertises, I'm afraid that hasn't worked for a very long time for the camera files or other POI files from this site, as they are produced "on the fly" to create an individual download for each user and that can only be done by downloading direct from the PGPSW webpage.
