Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 12:51 am Post subject: SP i3 - where could I find firmware V2.7 please? (beginner) |
|
|
I have had my streetpilot i3 for almost two years, and it stopped getting gps fix a few months. I have read many helpful posts here and have tried all the reset advice to no avail.
I know think the problem may be my regular updating of each new version of 'firmware I think' from Garmin. I currently have V3.4
I note many people have downgraded to 2.7 and have had some sucess. I have seen the same information elsewhere.
Could anyone let me know how to find and download this please.
I have tried gpsinformation, but dont really know what i'm looking for.
Any help for this beginner would be gratefully received.
Please excuse me if I have posted in the wrong place- I used this forum as this is where I have already found some answers.
Many thanks

Hi
This is the right forum.
All the i3 firmwares were here (except 3.4) but have now been taken down for some reason.
I've uploaded a copy of 2.7 to here- it's a 2.96 MB download.
I also had this problem a few weeks ago, where it just got 1 bar all the time, but can't remember what i did to fix it... |

System reset?
I notice you run 3.4 - how's that working for you?
I used to basically go with all the updates, and as things had kind of got worse over the releases, I guess I was in denial about the faults.
Uncannily, I think it was reading some of your earlier comments that made me finally smell the coffee, and I reverted to 2.7 - and did the same on my dad's I3 (which I tend to do the "maintenance" for).
And I have to say that personally, I've found 2.7 stable as you like. I think my favourite of all was 2.82 - seemed to have the best blend of features, but 2.7 seems rock solid, so I'll be staying with that until anything surfaces that actually works any better.
That experience has made me quite cautious with my C510T, too. But unfortunately, there's more complexities to that, in terms of say firmware upgrades for the GTM21. |

To PaulB2005
Thanks for the link, I have found it. I keep getting a message saying that there are no servers available with the data.
It shows processing download request, but nothing else.
I also do not know what to do with it once I have downloaded it. I have a Garmin folder I can save it to, I know how to run and install, its just the transfer to my i3 that I'm lost on
Sorry to be a complete pain
Thanks again, Eilis |

Sorry, can't help you with the download.
But the file that you download, tends to be a self-extractor and installer, so just connect your i3 to your PC, then run it.
If you're downgrading firmware, then backup your favourites, first, with easygps. |

It's not working here either.
I'll try again - download from REMOVED
Then follow Lesters instructions.

Didn't do anything in the end IIRC
3.4 is ok. Screen freezes occasionally...

Thank you soooo much Paul and Lester.
The download worked perfectly and Lester, your instructions were fab.
All loaded up now, thanks to earlier posts I knew how to check that.
I'm off outside to check it out. I will let you know how I get on.

I think that's been my problem with 3.4, and perhaps some of my bad vibes for the i3 with firmware versions post 2.82 - the freezes and lock-ups.
I found with 3.30 (I think) and 3.40 (and possibly some of the earlier version) that it would freeze quite a lot in map view, fortunately I rarely used it like that. In navigation mode it would regularly freeze, but it tended to do it if I'd set off before it had calculated.
So I used to wait for it to calculate the route, and it tended to be OK like that, with just the odd freeze, but didn't give me confidence for any recalculations. And of course, I didn't want my dad's i3 to be behaving like that. The problems with it freezing under those circumstances, being that you tend to be driving then, and find it's locked up.
Back on 2.70, and it seems totally rock-solid. |

Same here.

No problems like that so far. However i've notcied big a difference between the old car with an Anthermic Windscreen and antenna and the new car with no Anthermic Windscreen or antenna. |

Hi, I have now tried a few tests following the download, and everything seems to work fine. I am so grateful for your help with this.
All the best |

You can download the latest Firmware from here
Look for StreetPilot i3 Ver. 3.40 as of Apr 24, 2007
As for the maps you'll need to get a DVD from Garmin for free and then pay ~£50 to get the unlock code. If you are registered at MyGarmin you should start there. If not get registered and start there.
The latest version is 2008 (v10). If you can check 2008 (v10 ) here |
