Well, first let me introduce myself. I am US mil guy currently living in Japan. I'm only just getting into GPS because a PND recently came out here that has Japan maps in English. Completely priceless in this country without thorough knowledge of the written Japanese language. Even the Japanese get lost outside of their own areas nor read all 2000+ kanji characters, of which many street signs outside their local area can become unreadable.
Well here's some info with a question or two. First, the navi I bought is a JRoad 400. I know it is based off of Windows CE, uses a (from what I've read) decent SIRF III antenna, and stores it's maps and other info other than OS info on an SD card. My question is about obtaining and using US maps. I would like to take this back to the US with me and still be able to use it, and if not I'll sell it to someone new here who could use it. So can anyone help me find US maps and kinda fill me in on how to implement them into my system. If anyone can help me, I'd be willing to even share the English/Japanese maps I have with others.
Thanks and hope to hear from any of you soon. |

welcome!
do you know what software the device runs? it MAY be based on other software so other maps MAY work... failing that then i would suggest trying to get in touch with teh manufacturer to see if they have maps for any other countries available.

The spec sheet shows that the OS is Windows CE. I have yet to figure out what types of files there are because I lost my SD card reader and need to get another one. Using Google and searching for "JRoad Navi".
Just found an update website for it while multitasking. From the zip, it has a .dat file and and .adr file and an app file. The only other thing is that there is a readme that I can't seem to open. |

Well bump one. No one can help guy whos clueless and lost in the city? I'm not trying to patronise you guys, but I'm in a time crunch if I'm going to make my navi work for me while I'm here. I'm willing to buy the maps, but I don't want to blow a hundred bones on something I can't use. |

Do you have any photos of the device or a web link to the manufacturers site? _________________ Darren Griffin |
