Wish I'd had this yesterday when I was meandering up through Uttoxeter and Jug on my way home!

they are freshly made on large griddles with a content of your choice, normally cheese, bacon egg sausage,etc. very nice,but one is enough Laughing s


originally brought back to the uk by the staffordshire regiment from india, that is why i gues they are only found in this area now

The origin isn't really known but it seems a popular myth in the Staffs area that the idea (not the recipe) was brought back from India.

The general recipe isn't just confined to the Jug area. Cheshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire also produce them in some form and I've found the same basic idea in Scotland, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Canada and USA during travels. In none of these was there any hint that the source was Staffordshire

now you have me interested, in what form are they in cheshireor derbyshire? iask out of interest as i am a well travelled man and have not seen them in my worldwide trips in any form resembling the stokie ones! that is not to say they dont exist, i want to try them to compare them Embarassed i too have lived in the antipides and never saw anything like them, please tell me more Wink Very Happy
