Hi,

I'm trying to find myself my first sat nav and am having some difficulty despite all the research I've done.

I'd like it to meet the following specifications:

- European Maps
- Live Traffic Information which will give the option to re-route
- Bluetooth allowing hands-free calling for Nokia E65 and Blackberry Curve 8310 (the latter actually has its own sat nav but I'm not too keen on it and it's my wifes!)
- Not having to pay extra subscriptions for traffic, new maps etc.
- Space to add on own cameras, points of interest etc.
- Spending not too much over £200
- Text to speech

Optional
- MP3 and link to Car Radio
- Ability to control and / or charge Creative Zen Vision M through it (I see some Sat Nav's allow you to link to an Ipod but not sure about other makes)

I've been looking at the Navman S90i but have read all the problems on here plus it isn't compatible with my phone.

Equally I've looked at the Garmin 7 series but again it's not compatible with my phone.

Which potentially leads me down the TomTom route (Go 720T or 730T) but all the extra subscription costs put me off and the latter is nearer £300 than £200.

Are there any other recommendations or can you convince me with one of the above models?

Thanks

Assuming you are UK based there are no subscription charges for the RDS-TMC the life time licence required to use it is part of the initial purchase price
Only the GPRS data connection traffic costs more and is subscription based but you don't need that.
I would go to Halfords with your phones and get them to demonstrate the hands free with both phones when connected to the nav units, the TomTom units can be "picky" over which phones work/ don’t work - Mike

I think you're asking too much, here. You don't get something for nothing.

I don't know of ANY manufacturer that is going to give you free maps for ever. That just doesn't happen.

Equally, if a basic bottom of the range unit form one of the reputable companies is around £200, then you aren't going to get the features from the top of the range models for the same money.

There is a simple reason why the likes of TomTom and Garmin are still in business - they produce the best kit.

More and more "fantastic offers" of £50 satnavs from Tesco are appearing, and it's only after buying them that people get annoyed that there is no way to add functions like speed camera warnings to them. There may not even be a company website, let alone any support!
