Hi
I am thinking of buying the 2008 city navigator maps on DVD for my Nuvi 310.
Is there enough memory on the Nuvi to take it, or would I have to buy an SD card to transfer it onto.

As long as you just load the UK on it, it should be fine afaik.
Still, SD cards are cheap so why not get one too just in case? |

I've found a co. that sells 2008 maps just of UK and Ireland on SD card for about £56 inc. del.
Although I can't find any reference to that particular card on the Garmin website for the Nuvi 310.
I guess it must be genuine, but it does put doubt in my mind.
If I were to buy one would I need to delete the map data on the Nuvi at the moment? which is version 8 Uk and Ire.

Thanks Pandamedic
I can see it now.
But would I need to erase version 8 that's on the Nuvi at the moment? |

I presume that your 310 is registered with Garmin. If not then register it now. Then go into My Garmin again to check out the cost of a map update. That is the easiest way to update and probably the cheapest. When you have an update DVD take a full backup of all your 310. If you have an SD card then take it out. Then follow the upgrade instructions which are very clear. That will automatically delete the v8 maps and replace them with 2008 UK & I only, just like the 310 was. It will also put MApInstall onto your PC which will give you the facility to load maps of any or all of the rest of Europe onto an SD card. Unless a DVD came with your 310 (which I doubt) you won't have MapSource so won't be able to plan trips on your PC. In any event you cannot transfer routes onto the 310 so it is not too great a loss.
If you buy a full product then you may get MapSource and you will have to manually delete the v8 maps from your 310 as there won't be space for the new maps.
One possible?? benefit of taking the backup is that you can copy the old v8 map onto an SD card and have that available as well. |

Thanks Inspiredron
I have now ordered an SD card with UK & I on it, I'll see how I get on when it arrives.
I did incidentely get a DVD with my Nuvi 310. City navigator NT + Europe v8. Although if I try to type in a country, France seems to be the only one it recognizes. Perhaps I should try to reload the DVD.
