Hello I am new Very Happy

I need help please. I have a Garmin C510 and have been trying to get a Route from Liverpool to Dover. I have done this using Mapsource and then transfered it to my device.
When I go through the C510 I cant find the route or how I would tell it to take the route. Maybe I am been stupid!!
I live in N Ireland and am getting the boat to Liverpool. When I arrive how do I tell my C510 to take the route? I am unsure as to how it works.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Yes I am sure it does. When I make a route on the Mapsource I can then transfer it to the unit and it says that it has been transfered. The Waypoints that I make can be found in Favorites.

Thanks for your reply

Right on my 760 you need to goto Tools, My Data and then Import Route from File. Then the Route appears under Where To?, Routes.

Not sure if this is the same on the C510.

Just phoned Garmin and she said that the C510 does not Allow Routes!!. I have to get something like a 760 or something. Do you know where I can get one? I am going to France with the 5 kids and it would help keep my nerves at bay. Laughing

I got my 760 from Handtec Click Here

Can you not just set a load of POIs up as route markers and just Navigate from one to the other?

I just looked at the Garmin web site

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

Do all those do different things. Confusing!

Hmm. Not really. The lower end of the scale is the 200 series. Basic sat nav with no extras such as mp3 player, FM transmitter, Traffic, etc. As the first number goes higher so the spec (tends) to go up.

Different models within the same range will have different maps. i.e. 710 is UK Maps only, 760 is UK and Europe Maps and 770 is UK, Europe and US maps.

This is just an overview though...

Thanks for your help.

I can not seem to load any more Waypoints to my C510. I transfer to device and it says that it has transfered the info but when I look for the new waypoints they are not there. Any Ideas? Very Happy

How many Waypoints?

It would be easier to make a POI file and save the waypoints in that.

In Notepad make a new file

The information is stored in the following format. You must include the first line shown here

Quote:
;Longitude,Latitude,Name
-1.81997,52.64269,M6 Toll Northbound
-1.81984,52.6428,M6 Toll Southbound

Then save it as POI.CSV (not POI.TXT or POI.TXT.CSV or POI.CSV.TXT)

Upload it to your Device as it should appear under Custom POIs.

I have saved about 500 poi`s. They were emailed to me in a gpx file. I don`t even know how to delete them! I can view them in My Favorites.
Usig Mapsource I made a few more ( campsites ) and then tranfered them to My device but I can`t find them.
I would love to know how to do it using your meathod but I dont know how. Embarassed

Do you mind if i ask why you need a route for this journey and you can't just let the unit calculate the route?

Could you not ignore the Way-points etc and use a few key POIs to help you get from stage to stage?

The method i used above is just a POI file in CSV format with the Longitude, latitude and POI name. Then all you need is an icon with a matching name and you use POILoader to load them on the unit. I take you've never done this?

How do you get the GPX file onto the system?

Is there no way to delete Favourites on the unit?

I thought that the route feature would be good but couldn`t get it to work on my unit. I am not to concerned about it really. My main problem at the min is this:

I have files on my computer and then transfered them to the memory card. I then took out the memory card and the information was still in the unit? Is this correct? When I looked at the memory card then on my computer it had nothing on it Rolling Eyes So I am confused at this.

Can I not save information on several memory cards and swap them whenever I like? I have been told by Garmin that the unit can only hold 500 Waypoints but I have in excess of 1000. That is why I want to put them on different cards.

Thankyou for helping me.

OK. I've not messed about with this too much.

From my experience, yes, this is correct.

It's possible the files were moved to the internal memory.

Does the unit give you the oppertunity to use the waypoints from the card without transferring them to internal memory? If so, this would seem to be the way ahead.

To be honest i was hoping someone else who knows more about this would jump in because i feel someone somewhere is laughing and shaking their heads at my efforts to sort this....
