Cheap usable pocketpc/laptop software and GPS receiver

Rather than purchasing separate software for my Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket Pc and WinXP laptop, I'm thinking of getting Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006, which comes with Pocket Streets and a GPS receiver. I'm able to get a used copy for $50, which seems like a pretty sweet deal considering bluetooth GPS receivers by themselves start at that price. I know there is better software out there, but that would mean me spending triple the price for buying the hardware and two versions of the software separately. Can somebody recommend an alternate setup?

What I can't seem to find out about this GPS unit is:
- whether it can be self-powered--all the instructions I've read says it needs to be connected by USB cable
- whether it is a bluetooth receiver. I assume it is, since it's advertised as being compatible with pocketpc devices. However, other sources seem to say I need a BlueTooth dock to be able to do this.

Any help would be appreciated!

Don't know the specifics but..

Early versions with included GPS were Serial based GPS units.

But... Being used s/w be careful. If the product needs registering to work then you may find you can't and it may be unuseable.

Strictly speaking used MS s/w is illegal as it breaks the licence agreement between MS and the original purchaser.

The latest version of the s/w you mention (2008) see this page is 'only' $99 from MS with the GPS. BTW the picture on the MS website shows a USB connected device with S&T 2008 - so BT is looking out of the question. I guess this is because it's primarily used with PCs which still aren't universally supplied with BT connectivity.
