Hi
Some advice/help please.
I am about to buy a USA map from tt, but which one?
The whole of the USA or just the region Im going to?
Apart from the price is there any differance in detail?
Thanks |

Regional maps are part of the (more detailed) North America map rather than the less detailed USA & Canada map. |

Functionally, the two are identical - you will not receive different route planning on one than the other. The only difference in "detail" is the display quality. For example, the "USA and Canada" map will only show the outline boundary if an airport polygon, while the "North America" (and regional) map will also show the runway grid inside the poly. I suspect water features are also heavily compressed, since they don't affect the user much. |

Just downloaded (despite best efforts of Home and TT website which did about everything it could to stop me) the USA & Canada Map. Airports do actually show layout inside the polygons....
One thing I haven't figured out is how to use MapShare on the new map! It says 14256 corrections waiting but when I check for updates I get nothing.... does the device only support one "map-shared" map at a time?? |

The MapShare patches are stored within the map folder, so I see no reason for it not to work. Curious...
Which version of the map did you download? 710? How big is it? What device did youload it on? Curious that you can see the detail in the airports. |

USA & Canada Map v710.1575 - 884.3Mb - GO520 v7.221
I'm wondering whether it is because the map is stored on the SD card, while the UK maps are on the internal? But then as you say data should be stored in the map folder.
Also I've noticed that when I go into MapShare preferences within Home, nothing is listed under the countries tab - not even the UK which I am already receiving updates for - I can select POI categories though.
Edit: Home asks which memory location to use on startup - when I select the device - MapShare lists the UK and shows correction data. When I choose the memory card nothing is listed. Maybe I was right and the map has to be on the device for it to work? |

Finally - success.
After noticing my UK maps were not updating either I decided to dig further. After a lot of messing about I managed to solve it by doing the following.
Update UK Maps v710 (stored internal)
1. Select internal memory as location from Device menu in Home
2. Use "operate my go" and ensure UK maps are in use
3. Click "update my go" and with any luck you should get the update
Update US Maps v710 (stored external)
1. Open US map folder on device
2. Locate file "MapServerPatch.dat"
3. Rename to .old
4. Select SD card from device menu in Home
5. Click "operate my go"
6. Change map to US
7. Click "update my go" and cross fingers
It would appear MapShare updates the following files in the map folder:
MapServerPatch.dat
PatchFilter.dat
ServerLineIndex.dat
ServerNameIndex.dat
Notes:
Forced update might be possible by renaming/removing these (at your own risk). Using the "remove mapshare corrections" option didn't seem to resolve the issue.
I didn't rename anything for the Uk maps so not entirely sure why it suddenly updated them unless I just didn't get the combination of map and device location right for previous attempts...
Only the "MapServerPatch.dat" file existed in the US map to start with and after renaming then running the update it added the rest, which where already present in my UK map.
I don't seem to get any POI updates still, despite several categories being selected in Mapshare preferences...

The above has worked for me, only trouble is you lose all of your own corrections (and most of mine hadn't "come back" via the "reported by some" route).
POI updates have been broken for some time. I've been in discussions with TT "support" about it. So far I've been having to teach them that it ever worked, as they tried to tell me there was no such thing and the only POIs you could download from them via Home/Map Share were the speed cameras! |

Tell me about it - I discovered a replicable bug in Home and reported it only to get a stock answer back about re-installing and updating Home to the latest version. I shall not bother next time! Do they even read these things? |

Just checked and I don't have a "MapServerPatch.dat" file but I do have a "MapUserPatch.dat" is that the same file?
Does not matter, I did all the things except the naming of the file and it has just worked. I finally got the mapshare up dates for my North America 2GB map on my 520T _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.

Did you also delete "MapUserPatch.dat"? I have noticed that this is the only file which gets altered when I make my own corrections.
I wouldn't have expected that deleting only files with "Server" in the name would lose your own corrections. |

May I suggest you try again every couple of days or so? Seems many of us get the message about a gazillion mapshare to dl one day and, changing nothing, we do get an update the next time we try.
Gotta believe it's (another) TT Server error.
Also, as Andy correctly reminds us, the newer the map, the fewer people have it and, hence, the fewer the mapshares they'll be for a while. |
