Hello folks. This if my first post and i am sorry if it is in the wrong forum.
I purchased an LG LN500 Sat Nav from Halfords at the weekend. It is running Destinator software 5.7 and the maps say they are for Q1 2006.
I am normally good with tech stuff but updating this is really baffling me!
Please could someone point me in the right direction on how to update this to the latest maps and stuff as well as installing Traffic cams etc, as the LG website and Navteq's are completely useless!
Many thanks

NAVTEQ are the suppliers of the original mapping data and as such can't help you much here. The company that developed and supplied the s/w on your device will buy the mapping (at a large price) from them and implement a version of it for their product. So you need to go to LG regarding updates.
One common myth is that because it's electronic mapping it should be simple to get upgrades. Technically this may be true but licensing agreements between the suppliers (NAVTEQ) and the manufacturers (LG) prevents it. So you tend to get yearly (ish) updates to publicly available mapping for systems for the end user devices. The freqency will be down to the product manufacturer.
Also it takes around 2 years for road changes to filter their way into public products. It takes a lot of time and effort by the original mapping suppliers (e.g. NAVTEQ) keeping up-to-date with road changes over the world. _________________ Phil |

Not at all. If you can get an upgrade of the mapping and/or upgrade/update of the application from the supplier then you should be able to upgrade/update as appropriate.
Sorry -it's a confusing sentence but there is differencebetween upgrades 9i.e. completley different version of the application or mapping and updates - which usually fix minor bugs and limited functionallity upgrades.
The costs will be more for the mapping than the application. I don't know Destinator upgrade policy - but TomTom Navigator usually meant you got the application bundled in with the new mapping - i.e. a notional free upgrade to the application. _________________ Phil |
