The maps are locked to ONE unit using a code generated from the Product Number on the Card you have plus the "Device code" of the Go. This "activation code" can only be generated for ONE machine at a time.
You need to go to www.ttcode.com to generate the activation code.
If it allows you to do that (there are various constraints, you can only change it once every six months type of thing), then you should be able to use the map on the other machine.

None of the above explains whyyou are having trouble copying the files themselves. You shouldn't have any difficulty just copy and pasting with Windows Explorer.

What error messages are you seeing.

Hello, I m receiving 'unable to copy cnode.dat'.

I have tried to back up using nero 8. It has backed up to my C drive on PC, but it wont restore to the memory card.

It's a bit of a chew, but looks like TomTom stop you doing this.

What version of the map are you working with?

Seems obvious, but maybe not: The 700 has a 2.5GB HD; I believe the maps you have are about 1.4-1.5GB. The standard 300 SD card is only 1GB. Have you made sure you've got enough room on the card to copy the map?

TomTom don't stop you doing this. There are no restrictions on copying files, the only anti-piracy protection is the locking of the map as I described.

Don't bother using any copying programs, all you need is Windows normal copy and paste routines.

You should REALLY read the TomTom FAQs on this site HERE.
There are some good instructions for making a backup using Windows Explorer there (See #1) and for copying everything to a new SD card (See #8)

Smile Hello, I am in the process of copying the western maps to a 2gb sd card. Unfortunately it crashes out saying it cannot copy cnode.dat.

It looks like I won't be able to continue.

Thanks

Try JUST copying that file to your PC desktop.

If it still fails then you must have a corrupted file.

There is no reason why this would not work normally. We do it all the time when copying maps from one place to another and when making backups.
