|
|
Hi,
Recently my DriveSmart has been playing up, it keeps showing me laser hits when there are none and then the screen will freeze , this has never happend before, is there a way of doing a hard reset?
Also does the pgpsw database for the DS include Europe?
While I think the DS is the best if it has finally died what do people think I should replace it with, I have sat-nav fitted in my car so would be looking for something that could use the PGPSW database (including Europe?) but with the facilities of the DS?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry but the PGPSW Drive Smart database only includes UK cameras. |

Thanks for the reply Paul
Will the DriveSmart database be updated to accept the European ones anytime soon?
Is there anyone who can advise me on the problems with the DS and what I could change to if it has died?
There does'nt seem to be any detectors without sat-nav that are able to use the PGPSW databases, is that correct?
Does anyone use the Cheetah gps Mirror?
Thanks |

There is little likelihood of our expanding support for the DS as it is a discontinued model with a very limited user base.
As you have found, most dedicated SCD's use proprietary databases that require a subscription. I am not aware of any current devices that can accept third party data.
The crucial factor in any purchase of an SCD is the quality of the database. Whilst the Cheetah GPS Mirror is a novel solution, the database itself is an unknown quantity. Also, laser detection is soon to become prohibited as part of the last instalment of the Road Safety Bill. As such, few devices are now offered with this feature.
Is there any particular reason why you couldn't consider a GPS Nav as a solution? A Tomtom ONE can be purchased for under £100 and with our database installed would give you a respectable solution? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren
Thanks for the reply.
It would be a possibility to use my Ipaq 2210 which has already got the British database on it or I could use my N95 with sat-nav software but I am not sure how stable that would be??
But as I have a dvd sat-nav fitted to my car (navteq) which works really well I
was looking for a system that was Europe wide in its coverage thats why I thought of the Cheetah (I remember someone on the forum purchased one perhaps I should search this out)
Any comments please.
Thanks

You could use your 2210, there are a number of apps that would run on this in conjunction with a GPS and using our database such as GPS SpeedSentry. _________________ Darren Griffin |

SpeedSentry looks great.
Excuse my ignorance how would it work with the PGPSW european database and do you need sat-nav eg do you need mapping on the device (I Have TomTom 5 western Europe) for it to work.
Thanks |

Speed Sentry is a stand alone application to run on a PDA, it does not require any map in order to work, all you do is put the speed cameras into the correct folder in the required format - the European cameras will work just the same - Mike |

But you do need a GPS receiver or a GPS enabled PocketPC. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I also own a ipaq 2210 and like the idea of using "Speed Sentry" in conjunction with the pocketgpsworld database. What gps receiver would you recommend for the ipaq Darren, or Mike? |

iBlue or Holux would support your needs very well, to be honest, anything that can output NMEA serial data will work with the application (and others) - these days most GPS receivers BT, CF or cable will produce decent results
As for a speed camera database you need to use the "Other CSV Format" followed by the "Single file" download, the application takes care of the icons and camera type/ speed you only need the csv file for this to work - Mike |
