I am climbing the walls!
I'm computer literate, have loaded the POI database in the past (after much trial and error) I have a Garmin nuvi 350. I have downloaded the latest POI loader. I have downloaded the .zip files - they don't want to open and if they do, all I get is a small "Licence.txt" file. I have searched the data base of posts for the last hour and a half.
I have tried Safari and Netscape.
I have saved to disc.
Can someone give me a step by step instruction.
Many Many thanks in advance.
GJ

I'm running a Mac here. It is a very simple process, download the correct database .zip file, expand, launch POILoader, point a=it at the files you have just expanded and follow the prompts?

As a test I have just downloaded the following database:

Garmin POILoader => UK Speed Zoned Complete

The .zip file downloaded OK and when expanded using Stuffit I have a folder with all the expected files contained within.

Which database are you trying to download?

On the Mac, isn't there an issue that you MUST use Stuffit to extract the files from the zip?
And something about dragging the zip into the Stuffit window rather than opening them any other way?

You do have to use Stuffit as that is the Mac app for expanding .zip files. You don't need to drag the files onto Stuffit though, just right-click the .zip and select 'Open With | Stuffit".

OK, I'll try to remember that. Smile
Doesn't Safari try to impose itself as the "unzipper" though?

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is. Mac OS X has a built-in archive utility called unsurprisingly, archive utility.app. I think Safari tries to use this by default to automatically expand the archive and errors.

The solution is to manually extract as explained above. I'll delve a little deeper and see if it's possible to tell safari to use Stuffit instead as it's default archive app.

There's nothing as far as I can see.

However, my experience has been that once StuffitExpander has been installed it seems to be automatically used as the default application for expanding files.

No I can't find anything. It does configure as default but safari ignores it and tries to use the built-in engine instead.
