Please, please, please make a New Year resolution to format POI phone numbers as described in Section 5 of my guidelines.
eg the UK number 01234 123456 should be entered as +441234123456
That is, without spaces, hyphens, parentheses or whatever.
It is a real chore to have to reformat the phone numbers as I accept the entries into the database. If my guidelines are followed with regard to POI Names etc then I can accept manual submissions from reliable sources as a block.
I receive a lot of submissions with the Subcategory Name repeated in the POI Name field AND the POI Name field repeated in the Details field. All of these I have to edit manually so please get your acts together and save me some effort!

Richard, would not the easiest way to email the submitter to correct, maybe I could be a guilty party, because on occasions I have wondered why some submissions take a while to appear and tempted to chase to see if a problem so that I can rectify if so, and I sure most submitters would do same and it would also teach them to submit correctly in future, it would also save yourself tearing anymore hair out, just a suggestion. |

Sometimes I do email submitters asking them to conform to my guidelines and on reflection it would be better if I composed a set of standard emails that I could use.
At the moment I have some 130 manual submissions to be reviewed and for one reason or other each one, except those from Oldboy , will require me to edit some of the text. When reviewing I also take the oportunity to look at some of the other POI in the vicinity. Often I can correct the location of a petrol station using the satellite image in Google Maps.
If a specific icon does not appear then you can be assured that I am having trouble deciding on a suitable one. If anyone has an appropriate 22 by 22 bitmap then please email it. At the moment I need icons for
Accommodation - Vacation Rental
Community - College
Entertainment - Arena
Fuel - Waitrose Fuel
Recreation - Public Park
Shopping - Supermarkets etc - Plus Markt
Truck Dealership
I process the manual submissions before the emailed ones and at the moment there are quite a few emailed ones waiting. Also I leave what I consider to be "odd" requests for a new Category/Subcategory on hold. I use following criteria 1) "Why would anyone want to navigate to such a POI", 2) "Would there ever be more than 1 submission in the new subcategory".
Ah well, back to the reviewing and thanks to hijacker for responding to my plea.
Happy New Year to all you submitters

The phone numbers in any files that are emailed can be entered as 01234 123456 as my formatting program will remove any spaces and replace the leading 0 with +44 It will certainly save me time if phone numbers entered in the website form are in the +44 format without spaces etc.

Just a thought, could there be a little bit more room be squeezed on the online form so it could say:
"the UK number 01234 123456 should be entered as +441234123456"
instead of "(with country code, +44 format)".
Just a bit clearer for the telephonetically challenged!
(like me... I have a real blind spot when trying to sort out country codes and what I should be dialling when abroad) |
