|
|
The TomTom half price map upgrade offer expires at the end of Jan. As I am a very sceptical person I wonder what they might offer on 1st Feb. I currently have a very old 6.x map on my 700 so I need an upgrade, but should I buy now or wait? I don't know what is comming next map-wise. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Warners,
My advice...like any retail outlet, Tomtom are flogging old stock at reduced prices to try and clear as much as possible before they introduce new stock. |

I've never understood why they still do this though when it is a "virtual" product. There's no actual "stock" to shift! |

What will happen is you will buy the new map and a friend you know will still have the 710 map on his and there will be no differences in the area you are using your TT and you will be kicking yourself saying (I wish i bought the 710 map cheap instead of this new map) but if you are using it to travel the country often then maybe waiting for the new map would be the right choice. Either way it is a chance you take. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

So if I buy a new unit (thinking of a 920T to replace my Classic) there's no point buying a half-price map with it?
If there's new stock coming out anytime, are the current sales offers on units about to evaporate as well - approx 300 quid for a 920T?

The reduced price for the maps will continue until the end of January, so if you want to upgrade your existing device you have a couple of weeks to save some cash. - Mike |

For a person like myself who is going to the USA in April, this offer is just at the right time! Got the North America map for under £35 when I was considering selling my 720 and buying a 920 instead with its other maps.

If you buy a new unit, shouldn't it come with the most up-to-date maps -and a Latest Map Guarantee? |

So if I purchase the upgrade will I get any guarantee from TT on future updates. Will this be through MapShare? What will happen if a new version of the maps come out in February.

I would hope that you still get the 30 day Latest Map Guarantee, or am I leaving the dream? _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.

Where?
I've just gone to the "Mapstore" on TT's UK website.
Even though on the front page it says Quote: | Your preferred format: Available on SD memory card, or downloaded to your computer for immediate use... |
'Cos I'm bored, I tried buying every available map for the 920 and it offered me a total of 24 maps. EVERY ONE was download only.
For completeness, I selected the Go300 instead. Now it only offers 23 maps (no W+C Europe), but again, they were all available as a download only. |

I'm not convinced...
AFAIK, the 30 day Latest Map Guarantee is for HARDWARE purchases. i.e. if you buy a machine, you get the latest map available.
I've not seen any mention of getting a replacement if a new map comes out a day after you buy a map on its own.
All Mapshare does is allow very minor corrections to the direction of traffic down roads, names of places and POIs. It is certainly not going to give you actual road/mapping updates. |

Well, this is the useful reply that I got from TT Support "At TomTom we strive to ensure that the preloaded map installed on your device is the most up-to-date version available. However, as the roads are constantly changing, the maps may become outdated. Therefore TomTom releases new maps on a regular basis. It is always up to the individual if they wish to purchase our latest maps upon release."
So, no guarantee.
