|

I'm trying to download the POI's from this site -
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs
But when I try to unzip the file, I get an error saying the zip file is either an unknown file or damaged.
Any ideas?
Thanks |

Hi Cartboy and welcome to the forum.
This is a known problem when downloading POI's. When you are downloading them, don't try to do them all at the one time, try maybe 20-25 at a time and also click on the (show link) icon next to the dwnload icon also they should extract ok. Any other problems just post them and others will be here to help. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

I should also say that have you had a read at the FAQ's Cartboy, you should have a read at them here, especially #1 about back-ups. May also be an idea to do it before you try to input your POI's _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

I've managed to download some now, but only as seperate poi's rather than combined.
However, after copying them to my SD card (after making a backup), they are not displayed in the list of POI's on tomtom.
Clearly, I'm doing something wrong |

Where have you copied them to?
There should be 2 files for each POI category (an .ov2 file and a .bmp file).
Both files need to be copied into your TomTom's particular map folder.
You don't say what model you have, but your map folder will be called something like "Western Europe" or "UK_and_IE" or similar. |

See, I had done something stupid!
I'd put them in the GB maps folder, rather than the GB and europe folder!
All working now!
Thanks for your help |

Just as a thought, is there any way I can combine POI's into one category - ie hotels once they have been downloaded as seperate files? |

Depending on how many different Hotel Categories you want to Download, why not use the Combine Option, as this will add the Name of the Hotel Group to the Location Text.
There are 45 Accommodation sub-categories. If you want to use more than 20, then do two, or more, separate downloads. When you Unzip the Files you will have to rename the Accommodation OV2 Files so that the second one doesn't overwrite the first.
Then using a program like POIEdit you can open the first file, and then Open Append the next File. This will Merge the two sets of Data into a single file that you can Save and Copy to the Device. _________________ Richard
