As per the title is it possible to extract the POI from a Garmin Nuvi and convert them for use on a TomTom?

I think this can be done if you have POI edit. If you put the POI's in it and change them to ov2 format, they would work on a TomTom

Garmin units store all the POIs in a file called POI.GPI. I don't think the original files can be EXTRACTED from the POI.GPI file.

You need to get the original csv files and convert them to ov2 as per if1977's post.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes it is the original POI that are stored on the Garmin Nuvi that I want to extract.

Any idea where I can get the original CSV files?

Dozens of sites all over the web!

Here's one - Click here for PGPSW POIs

I think the Big Apple is asking if you can get csv "source" files for the built-in POIs that came on the Nuvi...

If so, and assuming they are like TomTom, then no... copyright rears it's ugly head, and they go to great lengths to stop you extracting them. (You might realise how awful they are if you saw them as a list!)

Having said that, there may be ways. I know of a method to VIEW the contents of the TomTom ones but not to extract them or edit them.

That's a shame.

I have downloaded the PGPSW POI database already and found it useful for national companies e.g. KFC, Tescos etc.

However the POI included with the Garmin gave local POI such as Restaurants, take away, shopping etc.

Thanks for the replies.
