A friend of mine has just purchased a GO 720 and it seems to have a different type from the Standard type SD Card. Will a normal SD card still fit?.
The reason is I would like to make a copy of the SD card (Western Europe)for use in GB with all POI's for GB installed and another SD card for the Continent so that I can install the POI's for Continent only on that card.
Doing this saves me from installing too many POI catergories on the tomtom at any one time. |

With a 300 Custom POI category limit is this really necessary? - Mike |

According to TT it will take SD and MMC Cards.
The x20 Devices can handle 300 POI categories. Is that not enough? _________________ Richard

Thanks for your quick response.
Sorry, I thought they could only take 100 Categories.
Still it is nice to know that I can make a copy on another normal SD card in case of problems when on tour.
Thanks, Sphinx |

Look closely at that card and see if it has any nice shiny terminals on it. You may find that it's the DUMMY card - just a lump of hi-tech plastic - which comes inside the slot for some unknown reason. _________________ Dennis

Just for information:
I just purchased a PNY 8 gig SD HC card. It works in the TomTom920
And...
Using a Card Reader I formatted the card and moved about 5 gigs of stuff to the SD card.
TomTom seems to see everything when using Media and I've also got a Video Player installed and that is now playing Fantasia. So the TomTom appears to be able to access these files.
BUT, big BUT.....
When hooked up to the computer, using Windows Explorer, the SD's properties show up correctly - size and used/free space, but I could NOT write anything additional to the card. When I tried moving another folder's worth of music it said something about "wrong parameters."
Now whether the HC would make a difference I don't know.
I will now see what happens with more functions.
(apology in advance but I may cross-post this in a thread Mike started on his 8 gig card) |

Thanks Dennis.
You were right about the dummy card. I had been reluctant to try any other card as the 720 was brand new and belonged to a friend of mine who is new to sat navigation. (In the meantime I shall keep playing with my Rider.) |
