Basic US Map

I just bought the syson chip GPS module for my Axim. One of the things I want to do with this is to take it with me when I go on trips and follow the flight path using my GPS. A friend of mine does this with his Garmin GPS 3. The garmin basemap is perfect for watching what cities you're near, etc. What is the best map/software that will create a basemap of the US that just shows large/medium cities/towns? I don't need turn by turn mapping software, just a broad basemap that has town/city info on it. Any suggestions? Any freeware out there that would work with this?

OziExplorer is about the only program that will allow you to do that. You will have to create the map yourself, and then calibrate it within OziExplorer.
