Can someone please tell me how to get this thing off of my new Golf!
I've installed it and now I don't like it , it spoils the look of the dash, no matter what I try I can't get the thing to release from the dash!
Ta!

Hi Wazza_G,
caveat firstly: I've not removed any Brodit ProClip from any vehicle yet!
However I've fitted a few Brodit ProClips for myself, friends, and family, so I've seen that ProClips either just slot into place (sometimes using a plastic tool) or they use double sided sticky pads.
If your installation uses double sided sticky pads then you must firstly try and remove (prise) the part of the ProClip away from your dashboard.
If you have the tool, gently insert it above or below were the ProClip is mounted between the two sections of the dashboard and gently pull the ProClip away from the dashboard.
Warning you may need to use some force, but please don’t blame me if anything goes wrong.

I fitted the ProClip and mount for the 720 in my Ford Ka, and found it completely blocked the driver's air vent, as well as placing the device much lower than I like it to be. I removed it using a thin-bladed blunt knife to release the sticky pads and apply leverage, while using considerable force to twist the ProClip away from the dash. I'm not sure I'd want to try it in a new car.
I was very disappointed with the Brodit mounting system, and when I pay £25 for two pieces of plastic I don't expect to have to drill holes in one piece to allow me to screw the two pieces together.
I thought it was very poor value when it arrived, and not happy to find it completely useless after I fitted it, especially after the glowing reports from users on this forum.
I'm pleased to hear someone else wants to get rid of theirs. _________________ Anita

Hi Anita.
It doesn't completely block the vent on my VW, but it does make access to the hazard light switch awkward, also the swivel doesn't allow enough tilt for me, it's tilted slightly upwards and it makes the alignment all wrong, it just doesn't sit right.
What really aggrieves me is the extortionate amount for what you quite rightly say is just two pieces of ABS plastic, I feel that it's a rip off.
So at the end of the day; If anyone else is thinking about buying this "system" I would suggest you look elsewhere for a better VFM solution. |

I've had ProClips in every car I've owned and never suffered any damage when removing them. Depending on the car and position it may be just a clip or adhesive tape.

In the absence of another solution I guess they can charge what the market will bear but these are made in small production runs and custom designed. The clips are not just for Brodit cradles don't forget so the lack of holes pre-drilled is no surprise, it takes seconds to screw a bracket on and does not require a drill. However I use Move Clips which are self adhesive anyway.

Each to their own, the position the clip is in will depend on what is possible in each car, no probs with any of mine but mileage will of course vary. If the option is a suction mount on the screen then its a ProClip for me every time. _________________ Darren Griffin

Or both as in the 2 I've got for the Fusion to mount the Go720 and Orbit.

By far the easier option even if you don't use 2 vehicles. _________________ Graham.

Yes, Darren, of course the smaller the car the more crowded the dashboard, and so fewer places to fit anything, but I do feel that the ptospective buyer should be warned if the only possible position blocks the air vent. There were only very rough drawings on the website, in which the clip appeared to sit between the two vents. I also found that it was very easy to knock the device out of the mount when moving my hand between the gear lever and the steering wheel.
Maybe the Move Clip would have been better, but I found it quite difficult to determine from the information given which clips and mounts were suitable.
I find a disc stuck on the (almost!) horizontal top of the dash is the best solution for me. It puts the device closer than on the windscreen, good with ageing eyesight, and just low enoug to not obscure the screen at all while still being high enough that I hardly have to move my eyes from the road to see it.
As you say, each to their own, but I think it is useful let people know that a minority don't find a Brodit product the ideal solution. _________________ Anita

I'm not sure which Golf you have Wazza_G but some of the Proclips look like they attach just above the radio. It may be possible to take the radio out of it's space and work from the back as well. If you don't have their "gap opener" use something plastic like a store card. Just a thought.
To anyone thinking about Proclips in the future, it's worth installing without the adhesive strips if possible - the clip has stayed in place in all the cars I've used without sticking it down. Also, to see what it will look like, check out Brodit's website to see photos of the clips being installed. Most photos are left-hand drive but you'll get a good idea of how it looks. _________________ Gerry

That depends on the clip, some use a clip only, some use a mixture of clip and adhesive tape and some rely almost entirely on the adhesive tape. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Those clips can be a little tricky to get off, but it CAN be done:

And prior to today, it was a secret known only to that select group comprising me, Gardenshed and Andy_P2002. _________________ Dennis

Damned carrot crunchers....
I managed to get it off with a bit of brute force/strength.
It's a shame because the idea is sound, it's just that it doesn't allow the TT to sit correctly, it's tilted slightly upwards, even with the ball fully tilted down, I've seen a wedge piece that would allow correction of this, but at £13 + p&p for just a small piece of ABS plastic with either a 10° or 15° slant on it is taking the proverbial.
Perhaps if someone from DSL developments sees this they may like to pass comment on this. |
