There's a
- consolodated by type (doesn't split out speeds), and a
- speed zoned complete (repeats each speed for each type - lots of files!)
Is there/can there be a version that ignores the types (I don't actually care) and gives me one category per speed (so I can set warning distance, description sound, and ICON appropriately)? This would be much easier to manage at the user end. |

There is no such animal available for download. There are too many variables in what users want, that would make it unmanageable. There are already 25 different download formats, all with the different groupings and countries.
You could always use POIEdit to merge all the different speeds into one file and use one of the speed icons to indicate which.
This would have to be done at every download. _________________ Richard

As it says somewhere in the introduction to the database, "there are dozens of different variations you could have".
You might want just the different fixed cameras all added together and then split into speedzones and the mobiles all in one, or the redlights split up into speeds and added to the gatsos.
Basically, it isn't possible to produce every combination for download, but it is VERY easy to do it yourself.
Just download and install POI Edit If you want to combine categories together, start with the speed-zoned files and from the file menu "open" the first one you want and then "append" all the others. That will merge them into one file which you can then save with a new name.
If you want to split up a category, just sort them by speed or whatever and cut and paste until it is how you want, then save as above. |

Sure, I understand that it doesn't help to have too many formats, especially if they're not generated automatically.
Do you get a lot of relative downloads of the consolidated-by-type? If so I guess I'll just keep quiet, but to me that's no so useful in reality. But I guess each to their own ;-) |

it all depends on the device in question. eg tomtom, if using consolidated, will only show the camera type BUT a garmin unit using consolidated by type will show the type AND speed as it uses the "@30" in the poi name for the speed. it does the job for garmins unless you want a unique icon for each speed in which case use the speed zoned.

Thanks for the insight.
How many user POI files will a Tomtom V2 with the latest Navcore software support at once these days? I know it used to be small number... |
