|
|
Hi newbie here - I don't seem to be able to get my mac intel (using Boot camp partition) to see the device. There's a red cross on the X960 between the symbol for the SD card and the computer. I've tried a couple of other USB cables - should I just give up and take it back to maplins ? I don't have easy access to a real PC. The device seems to work so do I just need the connection for updates ? Does anyone know of a mac compatible device for the same sort of money ( a bargain I thought at 99.99 GBP) ? Thanks for your time Roger |

Looking on the VM website, the specification for the X960 says it is not compatible with Macintosh. Unless anyone has found out something different, or knows of any VM plans in this area, I don't think you'll have any luck here, unfortunately. I haven't found anything in the VM forums about Macs (though the search doesn't seem to be too clever).
Or are you simulating a PC configuration on your Mac? If so, are you really getting a red 'X' or is it actually a red '\' on a red 'O' (like the road sign for 'No Entry') ? If it's the latter, then that is quite normal - I think, but I don't know, that it is more a warning not to take the SD card out while transfers may be taking place. You need to get MS ActiveSynch or something similar, and Content Manger running, to connect the X960
But if you do have a 'X', hmnn ... |

Thanks for that BigPerk - yes I tried a search before posting but with no luck. I understand that Macs aren't supported but yes I'm using a partition on the Mac that boots into a PC (really clever and works for everything else I've used) it runs windows Xp. The red X is there and I'm guessing it means that there is no USB communication going on and yes I am using MS Active Sync and it tells me that things are synced. As I said I am able to use the unit but, interestingly, I never got to see my 'serial' number when installing and have therefore not been able to 'register' - not sure if that makes a difference. I'm pretty mac literate and am Ok with PC basics though totally new to satnav and certainly new to Michelin satnav software. I'll keep playing but am worried about about too much and then not being able to return the unit to the supplier. I really don't like giving up on this sort of thing but don't want to waste time if it just ain't going to work - reading through the posts I'm beginning to wonder if this is the correct choice for me - cheap but YGWYPF ???? Thanks again - Regards Roger |

I only mention this because I got caught out once by it, not because I think you would rogertb! Does ActiveSynch have "Allow USB connections" set? |

Thanks again bigperk - yep allow usb is OK - they must be seeing each other and until I start digging a little deeper I'm not quite sure how to test if they're communicating - any ideas - ? should I try and download an update or something ? Regards Roger |

Firstly, a Mac in 'Bootcamp' mode is not a Mac it is a windows PC so any reference to VM not supporting macs is incorrect in this case.
For the uninitiated, the latest Intel Macs can dual boot Mac and Windows. When booted in Windows mode they are windows PC's, no emulation, full windows.
Ok, the first thing we need to do is debug the connection. Are you connecting directly i.e. not via a USB hub? Does VM need Active Sync installed to operate. I know you said you have it but is that a required app?
What does Device manage report under USB when the unit is connected? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren - thank you so much for taking an interest. I'm pretty dim on PC stuff (not much brighter on macs)! - but here goes:
I am connecting directly
Don't know if VM needs active sync - it just appeared when I stuck in the cd.
Device manager shows
USB Intel R
Standard enhanced something
USB root hub
USB root hub
and one 'windowsCE USB device
viamichelin nav x960
The computer certainly sees the device 'cause when I disconnect the computer says that it has been disconnected but there is still this red cross (on the device) and when I hit the sync button in control manager nothing happens.

Ok, looking at the manual, the image you describe is not an error, it says this image means Quote: | The screen of you ViaMichelin Navigation X-960 / X-970T displays the icon telling you not to remove the
SD card from the PND: |
Have you followed all the installation steps detailed in the manual from page 75, "12.2.3 Installing the drivers in Windows XP'? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks again darren - aren't you patient - I'd have told me RTFM by now. Ah that's what it means - sorry it looked like no connection but it's obviously don't disconnect ( I haven't read all the manual yet) Anyway _ thought all that stuff on page 75 was only for connecting up a mobile. So I found my S/No and copied and pasted and now get the message "...the code is not valid..." I guess I'll uninstal and try again.

Post back and update us, the CD contains an XP Driver for the VM, I suspect that somehow this hasn't happened hence your issue. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren - well I've managed to register (what a palaver -how do you spell palaver)? but now I can't see the telephone settings or bluetooth on the device or activate the speed camera download on the site - 2 main reasons for buying this kit. I'll contact Michelin and ask them and trawle the forum - thanks again for your help. Regards Roger |

Hi Roger, glad you're getting there! I don't know about phones (except that you will see they are a running sore at the moment). I'm waiting for the dust to settle before I try it out.
A suggestion about the cameras (I am assuming it's similar to the 980, though from the 'X' and '\' business it's clearly not always the same, and I had enough trouble understanding that without trying out the 960 Manual!) - you should already have them (not necessarily the latest version, probably August) installed on the unit. For updating them I find them in the general list of VM points of Interest in Content Manager ,with an 'update' option. It has to be said that some people on the forum are also having problems with this as well, which seems to be related to what unit they bought and when.
If this is all wide of the mark as well, my apologies. But it sounds as if you will get there in the near future! It's actually quite a good satnav in many respects, though definitely not perfect (but then none are), so I hope you will find it worth persevering. |

Hi All
Sorry that I haven't been in touch for a while but to say that we are busy with the Christmas rush would be an understatement.
I just wanted to update everyone on whats going on and how we are stiull working to support you.
I have a meeting on Thursday with Product Management and while I can't promise that all the issues will be cleared up right away, I do have the list from the site (thanks to you all) and will be going through each issue.
Just to let you know the V7.02 update on the web fixes several problems including:
"Slip Road Flaw": Route would take you off some slip roads then back on again.
- Message "Corrupted data" in Content Manager, under Vista
- Dangerous curves indication (left or right) was random
- System would shut down when deleting a stage along route planning
- No route after download of MyViaMichelin via GPRS
- ... and many wording mistakes that were corrected
We will have an update arounf 17th Decenber to V7.03 which will fix the speed camera download issues some people are getiing and other issues - I will post a full list of what this changes when I have it.
I know that some of you have had an issue with creating new folders when you have downloaded V7.02 and would ask anyone who can to email me a screen shot of this error to show to the developers.
I have now got a direct line to one of the chief software developers on the team and any info you give will be directed to him to make any urgent changes which affect the use of the products. Any cosmetic changes you want to recommend will be taken on board and put forward for inclusion in V8 in March but I think we need to sort out errors first.
Thanks to you all for the support,
Regards
