Hello,

I'm having a bit of a bother to get the Ipaq to see my BTGPS, using CruxView as the testbed (I also have Tomtom) on an iPaq 5450 with Windows Mobile 2003. I cannot get a signal.

Bluetooth settings
tab "Serial Port"
About htis service
ticked "Enable service"
ticked "Authorization required"
ticked "Authentication (Passkey) required
ticked and tried w/o Encryption required
Ports
I cannot change these
Inbound COM Port 5
Outbound COM Port 8

The BTGPS is paired through Windows BT software and shows up as an active "Outgoing Connection", signal strength just right
Under BT mgr the BTGPS Properties are
EMTAC BTGPS 222222 15046D:Serial
Device name: EMATA BTGPS 222222
Device address: 00:02:C7:15:04:8D
Service name: Serial Port
Security: I ticked Authentication, I ticked encryption also tried without encryption
Profiles: ticked default

The Cruxview manual refers to iPaq 3xxx series (mine is a 5450) and port 8. With com8 baud rate set at 38400 I tap open and get "Error COM Port can't open!!"
COM9: same error
COM7: same error
COM6: takes a few seconds then "Crux_View ReadError!!Reset GPS?"
if I tap yes the lot freezes, if I tap no I can continue, but have lost the BT connection
COM5 same as 7,8 and 9
COM4 same
COM3 same as COM6
COM2 same as COM3
COM1 same as COM3

The BTGPS is fully charges, bluelight flashing, green light flashing.

No joy whatsoever.

HELP!!
What do i have to do different here?

TomTom GPS is blocking the COM port from other programs. De-install whatever TomTom GPS driver you have and re-install version 2.07 (from our downloads page)

Problem and solution? Driver/Operating System..........
I met a collegue with identical HW and software and his iPaq saw the Emtac no problem. Since we also have the same OS version, I considered it to be the HW on my iPaq. HIGHLY unlike but hey, the mind wonders.....
I ended up downgrading Windows Mobile 2003 to 2002 and voila, the GPS worked! So upgraded to 2003 and voila, GPS works!!!

I must have damaged a bits or bytes along the way in the past......

Hi,
I'va had the same problem with my iPAQ 2210 and Emtac Bluetooth GPS. It worked fine with TomTom 3 but no ither program could connect to the GPS.
Just this morning I saw a TomTomGPS update (3.02).
After installing this everything works!
Just simple on COM8, 38400bps, etc. No problems.

Here's the link: http://www.tomtom.com/updates/gpsupg302.exe

Good luck!

I had the same problems with com8 and found this info which solved the problem!

INFO FROM:
http://people.freenet.de/videopix/gpsdis/default.htm
Tips and tricks
The original TomTom Bluetooth mouse works in as-delivered condition only with TomTom. In order to use it with other programs, replace the Bluetooth driver of TomTom (ttbtdev.dll) in the registry with the original. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial8\Dll should be the entry BtCeIf.dll. Note upper und lower case letters!
The PDA always starts the driver used last. In order to use the new driver, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\Autoconnect\000x (000x e.g.. 0008 for com8) add BtBrowserEnabled=0 (as binaryDWORD). The PDA then will not ask anymore, but will connect Com8 with the Bluetooth mouse used last there.

EdReg 1.0 Registry editor for Pocket PC from:
http://www.vorwerk-stengel.com

Will fix the problem. TomTom Navigator 3.03 works also with the original BtCeIf.dll.
